Speedway 660 is ready to host Atlantic Canada’s biggest stock car racing event of the season. SpeedWeekend gets underway on Friday evening with a free event for fans, campers, race teams and sponsors. The racing schedule includes the Irving Blending & Packaging 150 (Sportsman) on Saturday, the Auto Value 250 (Pro Stock) on Sunday and the ENDURO 200 Championship on Monday.

“Campers have been arriving here all week and we’ll soon see race teams begin to arrive as the excitement continues to build for SpeedWeekend” said Speedway 660’s Michelle Roy. “We’ve been working non-stop to make sure we are ready to host fans, race teams and our marketing partners for our biggest, most exciting weekend of racing of the year.”

The Harvey’s Family Farms corn-boil, bonfire and infield party, at 7PM on Friday, is a popular free event for fans, campers, race teams and sponsors. This year Tristan Horncastle, who recently recorded his debut country album in Nashville, will provide live-entertainment. DJ Dale Case will also be on hand with recorded music.

The Irving Blending & Packaging 150 highlights racing action on Saturday at 7PM. The West Wood Estate Apartments Bandoleros, featuring girls and boys up 16 years old, will also race on Saturday night. Qualifying for the Auto Value 250, a presentation of Jim Gilbert’s Wheels & Deals and RE/MAX Group Four Realty, gets underway at 2PM on Sunday. Fans will also see the Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters and the DMR Auto Sales & Service Street Stocks on Sunday afternoon. Then, once the qualifying is complete, the Auto Value 250 takes the green flag at 7PM Sunday night. And on Monday at 2PM the ENDURO Championship 200 wraps up an action packed SpeedWeekend.

“The level of competition in the Auto Value 250 and Irving Blending and Packaging 150 is going to be intense with a long list of strong contenders in both races” said Roy. “The Saturday night Sportsman race pays five thousand dollars to win and Sunday’s race has grown to be one of the top Pro Stock/Late Model events in eastern North America with a purse of over seventy thousand dollars.”

Shawn Tucker, who has won the Auto Value 250 twice, is riding high these days. Tucker, who won the IWK 250 and finished third in the Atlantic Cat 250 earlier this year, has won three Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour races this season.

“We’re excited about the Auto Value 250, it’s on our home track and we’d love to become the first three-time winner, but it is always tough to win one of these long races” said Tucker. “We’ve got some momentum after winning the Parts for Trucks 150 in Petty last weekend and we’re really happy about passing Brad Keselowski, the defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion, to win the IWK 250 a few weeks ago, so we feel pretty good about our chances this weekend.”

Lonnie Sommerville, another two-time Auto Value 250 winner and John Flemming, the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour points leader, are two other top contenders. Dave O’Blenis, who just won his second straight RE/MAX Group Four Realty Pro Stock title and fourth over-all, will be going for his second Auto Value 250 win. Speedway 660’s weekly pro stock drivers will face some of the top stars from the Maritime Pro Stock Tour and Pro All Star Series in the Auto Value 250.

“When you combine the Saturday night Sportsman and Sunday Pro Stock races together on SpeedWeekend it really does attract race teams and fans from all over eastern North America for one of the best weekends of short-track racing anywhere” said Roy. “We are also excited to be able showcase all five of our weekly racing divisions and I know the fans are going to be on the edge of their seats all weekend long.”

Speedway 660 officials say there are still a few campsites available for the weekend. Fans interested in claiming one of those sites or advance SpeedWeekend event tickets are encouraged to call the Speedway 660 raceline at 506-454-7223.

“We continue to work hard to be family focused and fan-friendly, so we look forward to see everyone on SpeedWeekend for awesome racing entertainment” said Roy. “I want to thank all of Speedway 660’s season ticket holders, our weekly fans, race teams, marketing partners as well as our employees and volunteers for helping us grow SpeedWeekend into the world-class, short-track racing event it has become.”
