Series Release/Photo by WingNut Productions
(HALIFAX, NS – August 18th, 2022) – The Passione Flooring & Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour is back in action for the first time in over a month on Saturday, August 20th when the Series takes to the high banks of Riverside International Speedway for the second time on the 2022 season. The 60-lap, elimination style feature presented by T&R Truck Repair will ultimately come down to a ten lap, ten car dash that will see the winner race away with $1,000. Racing action gets kicked off on the James River, Nova Scotia oval on Saturday at 4pm.
The 60-lap feature will be split into three segments. The first segment is a 30-lap stanza presented by Veinotte’s Truck and Auto that will take the field to halfway point. The winner will pocket $300 and the Riverside Roulette wheel will be spun which has the potential to shake up the starting lineup for the second segment. The second portion of the race is presented by Jerome Tracey Auto Body and will give the winner of that 20-lap dash an extra $200. At that point, the field will be trimmed to ten cars and will begin a final ten lap shootout. The winner of the race is the driver who crosses the line first at Lap 60 and will take home $1,000 from T&R Truck Repair in addition to any other cash prizes accumulated. When you add it all up, including the EIT Race Radios Hard Charger award and finishing position monies, the purse for Saturday’s race is over $3,000.
Over a dozen drivers are entered, with more expected to enter late, for the biggest first prize ever paid out by the Passione Flooring East Coast Mini Stock Tour. Matt Watson (Miscouche, PE) leads the field into battle as the most recent winner at Riverside International Speedway and the current point leader. Watson was second to Mitchell Montgomery (Summerside, PE) in the most recent Tour race at Oyster Bed Speedway and has a comfortable 24 point lead over two-time and defending champion Dave Matthews (Kennetcook, NS). Series freshman Tyler Hallahan (Elmsdale, NS) sits third in the standings and local Alex Landry (Antigonish, NS) fourth and Ryan McKnight (Sussex, NB) fifth as the season enters the second half.
With big money on the line, there are several teams racing to Riverside in hopes of sweeping away with some extra cash. Mike Weagle (Steeves Mountain, NB) has to be an instant favorite with his resume packed full of Mini Stock victories throughout the region, including his most recent win in June at Buds Speedway. Weagle will be driving the former Kody Quinn (Sydney, NS) car that was on the podium at Riverside Speedway in June.
Jessie LeClair (Tignish, PE), Scotia Speedworld regular Nic Baker (Middle Sackville, NS), 2018 Thunder Champion Darren Flemming (Shubenacadie, NS), Shay MacPhee (Yarmouth, NS) and multi-time Passione Flooring East Coast Mini Stock Tour race winner Jesse Deveau (Greenwood, NS) will all have their Hondas wound for sound on Saturday. For Deveau, it is a return to a pavement Mini Stock after a successful rookie season in a Late Model Sportsman, which has included a top five run at Riverside during the NAPA Auto Parts/Henry’s AUTOPRO 100 on IWK 250 weekend in July.
Several Scotia Speedworld Lightning feature winners will look to compete in the race, 2022 winners Chad Sinton (Truro, NS) and Travis Keefe (Gold River, NS). Racing veteran Ross Moore (Lake Egmont, NS), who traditionally pilots a Cavalier on Friday nights, will slide into the window of a Honda out of the Nic Baker stable. The trio are fully capable of upsetting the field and taking home the victory, and a pile of cash, on Saturday at Riverside.
The T&R Truck Repair $1,000-to-win race marks the beginning of a busy stretch of the schedule for the Passione Flooring East Coast Mini Stock Tour which includes Saturday stops in New Brunswick at Petty International Raceway (River Glade, August 27th) and Speedway 660 (Geary, September 3rd) over the next two weekends.
Grandstand and pit tickets for the Summer Sizzler presented by Wilson Equipment are available until Noon Friday at www.riversidespeedway.ca. Advance tickets offer a $5 discount (vs buying at the gate) as well as an expedited and contactless entry on race day. Tickets will be available at the track on Saturday, starting at 11 for the pit and 1 for the grandstand. A detailed event schedule is available at www.riversidespeedway.ca.
