Summer Sizzler Saturday at Riverside Featuring $5k To Win MASS Sportsman Race!

JAMES RIVER, NS (August 18, 2022) – All systems are go for Saturday’s Summer Sizzler presented by Wilson Equipment at Riverside International Speedway. The grassroots racing extravaganza will see high octane action in three popular divisions, the Auto World Allstar Sportsman Series, the Passione Flooring Mini Stock Tour, and the Hot Rod Classics Vintage Race Car Series.

The stakes will be high for the sportsman racers in the NAPA Auto Parts/ Henry’s AUTOPRO 150 – the biggest race of the year for the series – with more than $20,000 on the line including a guaranteed $5000 to win plus another $3000 in lap leader bonus money; the winner could take home as much as $8200. Top sportsman racers in the region have pre-registered for the race in hopes of taking home the lion’s share of the purse and scoring valuable points en route to the series inaugural championship. With just three races remaining on the ‘22c shedule just two markers separate the top two runners Deven Smith and Brady Creamer (212 vs 210). Coby Smith sits third (196) just 14 points behind Creamer. Local racers Corey Breen and Jeffrey Breen, along with Kevin Morse and Dennis Nickerson will look to defend their home turf against those from away. And, full-time pro stock racer Russell Smith Jr. – a former sportsman hotshoe – will be in the field to challenge the sportsman regulars, including his brother Deven.

The NAPA Auto Parts/Henry’s AUTOPRO 150 is the longest and richest race on the regional sportsman circuit this year.

Also on the race card is the Passione Flooring Mini Stock Tour in a $1000-to-win race presented by T & R Truck Repair. It will be the second stop of ’22 for the series at Riverside this year and this time they’ll see an elimination-style format that will see 10 cars race for the $1000 in the last 10 laps of the feature.

Rounding out the show will be the popular Hot Rod Classics Vintage Race Car Series in the Anchor Toyota Classic, its only stop at Riverside this year. The series, now in its third season, continues to grow and so will see cars new-to-Riverside along with some golden oldies that have raced the high banks in ’20 and ’21. The hand-crafted beauties showcase stock car racing of a bygone era in cars from 1985 or earlier.

Fans in Antigonish on Friday afternoon are invited to stop by the Riverside office in the Post Road Plaza from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. to see race cars from each of the three divisions that will race Saturday in the Summer Sizzler and for a chance to win official Riverside swag, tickets, and more. Fans in New Glasgow on Friday can stop by Anchor Toyota between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to see Hot Rod Classic race cars that will be at Riverside on Saturday.

Grandstand and pit tickets for the Summer Sizzler presented by Wilson Equipment are available until Noon Friday at www.riversidespeedway.ca. Advance tickets offer a $5 discount (vs buying at the gate) as well as an expedited and contactless entry on race day. Riverside Speedway opened in 1969 under the helm of Antigonish businessman John Chisholm. It was sold in 1989 and bought back by Mr. Chisholm late in 2005, rebuilt in 2006, and rebranded Riverside International Speedway. Still owned by the Chisholm family, the popular 1/3-mile high-banked asphalt oval has provided generations of race fans with some of the best stock car racing entertainment in North America for over 50 years.
