Eastbound Park (NL) Grand Opening In July

Newofundland, get ready for the hottest racing and live concert experience!

The former Avondale Speedway has been overhauled by Pat Squires and his staff for opening in July 2014. Now dubbed as Eastbound International Speedway and Concert Park, the grounds will feature a 1/8-mile drag strip, a 1/3-mile oval with 20 degree banks, go kart track and grandstand seating capacity for 5,000.

When it comes to stock car racing, the track will field five divisions, including Legends and Bandoleros, Sportsman, Street Stocks and Hobby Stocks (known to those on the mainland as a Mini Stock or Four Cylinder). The schedule will see eight races for the classes split between Eastbound Park and Thunder Valley Speedway in Bishop’s Falls in an Oval Track Provincial Series. Exhibition racing will also be held on July 26th and 27th as a part of the opening weekend for Eastbound International Speedway.

Eastbound Park will also feature three drag racing weekends (August 16th and 17th, September 27th and 28th and October 11th and 12th), a grand opening weekend featuring the World Series of Monster Trucks on July 26th and 27th and Eastbound Hoedown, a country music festival with dates and acts to be announced.

Like any race track preparing for the season, the team still has lots of work to get the track ready for the season. Progress pictures can be found on their Facebook page. Of note, the tech building will be on the inside of Turns Three and Four and the pit lane will be on the inside of the race track, much like Riverside International Speedway in James River, Nova Scotia. The grandstands will be behind the drag strip, which will run adjacent to the front straight of the 1/3-mile oval.
