PETTY READY FOR INAUGURAL CALEB DUNN MEMORIAL WEEKEND

Track Release

RIVER GLADE, NB (July 31, 2013) – Management at Petty International Raceway are proud to host the Caleb Dunn Memorial Weekend this Saturday and Sunday. The event will honour the late Caleb Dunn, a New Brunswick stock car racing legend, and management are striving to provide stock car racing entertainment similar to that Dunn provided in his three decades behind the wheel.

Saturday will see the GT Enterprises Sportsman division qualifying for the Atlantic Dodge Dealers Caleb Dunn Memorial 200, along with racing for the C Max Paint and Body Shop Supplies Street Stock, the Mister Transmission Mini Stock, and the Leisure Days RV Bandoleros.

On Sunday fans will see all four divisions back in action culminating with the Atlantic Dodge Dealers Caleb Dunn Memorial 200 for the sportsman racers – the longest race of the year on the Petty calendar.

Veteran and rookie racers are expected to enter the event in hopes of winning the privilege to be affiliated with Caleb Dunn – a racer who was a hero to many who will be competing for the checkered flag Sunday night. Notable expected entries include division point leader Russell Smith Jr., second-place point getter Matt Maillet, and third-place Shawn McLean. Veteran Doug Hill is also expected to make a cameo appearance at the event driving a sportsman car prepared by another Maritime racing legend, Frank Fraser, at his SFR shop in Shubenacadie, NS.

All four divisions will be point racing en route to their respective division titles and final point standings – so every spot counts in every race – regardless of whether they are racing for the checkered flag, or not.

Point leaders heading into the weekend, besides Smith in the sportsman, are Ryan Messer in the Leisure Days RV Bandoleros, Brad Daley in the Mister Transmission Mini Stock, and Martin Landry in the C Max Paint and Body Shop Supplies Street Stock.

Fans who attend the show this weekend will also have the chance to view special memorabilia attributed to Caleb Dunn and his racing career. Mr. Dunn passed away May 2012 at 84 years of age. He won more than 200 races in an amazing career – and his accomplishments were formally acknowledged in 2006 when he became a member of the inaugural class of inductees to the Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame. He was honoured on the Moncton Wall of Fame in 2001.

The weekend show will end Sunday evening with a fireworks display.

Racing starts at 6:00 p.m. both nights. Saturday admission is $15 for adults and $5 for youth (8 to 18). Sunday admission is $20 for adults and $10 for youth. Children seven and under will be admitted free both days (when accompanied by an adult). There is plenty of free parking on site for vehicles and RV’s (unserviced).
