Wet and Wild First Day of INEX Winter Nationals

A record car count, a rain delay and a track curfew highlighted a wild Round One of 2018 INEX Winter Nationals.

Tim Brockhouse extended his February win streak at Citrus County Speedway to six with a win in the Legends Masters division. Brockhouse started in second place following an invert of eight and held the lead for a majority of the feature. Shaun Buffington finished second, followed by James Edsall, Calgary, Alberta’s Ira Laughy and Tom Gray.

A number of contenders, including Carl Cormier, Todd Midas, Robert Gayton, John Sossoman and Robbie Faggart, were sidelined before the end of the Masters A Main due to incidents.

Shelburne, Nova Scotia’s Paul Goulden won the second B Main and was able to finish ninth in the A Main. Ontario’s Kevin Foisy and Craig Bruce finished sixth and seventh to sit four Canadians in the top ten after 25-laps.

Sammy Smith was the winner of the Semi Pro Legend feature on Night One of INEX Winter Nationals. Smith bested a competitive 28-car A Main field with Drew Dollar and Harrison Halder.

Waylon Farrell, who transferred to the A Main through the final seventh place spot in the first B Main, finished 14th in the A Main. Michael Cormier, who was sixth in the second B Main, was 19th in the A Main. Braden Langille, who set fast time in qualifying, was caught up in a wreck with four laps to go in the 25-lap A Main and wound up 22nd. Michael Neary finished eighth in the second B Main and failed to qualify for the A Main in his first Legend start.

Jak Crawford took home a 27-car Legend Young Lion feature after a back and forth battle with Daniel Silvestri. The race was called after 17 laps due to the race hitting the time limit.

Landon Rapp edged out Grant Thompson in a photo finish to the Bandolero Bandit feature. Rapp led the most laps in the 20 lap feature but Thompson, who set fast time for the feature, was able to get alongside Rapp at the finish but could not best the No. 28 at the line.

Hubley, Nova Scotia’s Owen Mahar finished fifth in the Bandolero Bandit feature.

Mason Maggio took home the eight car Bandolero Beginner feature.

Nearly 170 cars between four Legend and three Bandolero classes hauled to Citrus County Speedway in Inverness, Florida for the first day of racing in the 21st edition of the annual event. A rain delay of five and a half hours following qualifying set back the start time for B Mains to 7pm and an 11pm track curfew forced the postponement of the Bandolero Outlaw and Legend Pro races.

Sam Rogers was the quickest of the Canadians in Bandolero Outlaw qualifying, placing fourth behind fast time Ethan Norfleet. Danny Chisholm was eighth, Eastbound Park champion Owen Groves was 15th and Sara Thorne 18th. Saskatoon, Saskatchewan’s Sam Howett was scheduled to roll off 23rd.

Jolicure, New Brunswick’s Cory Hall set fast time in Pro qualifying.

Due to the forecast of inclement weather on Tuesday in Inverness, Florida, Tuesday’s racing has been postponed and racing will take place on Wednesday.
