Battle by the Bay Results: Chase MacKay Caps Bandolero Career with Third TCM Bandolero Event Win
Chase MacKay is now a three time TCM Bandolero event winner!
After winning the TCM Bandolero Blast at Speedway 660 in 2019 and 2021, MacKay returned for his final start in a Bandolero car and took home the TCM Battle by the Bay presented by Mallard Electric at Bud’s Speedway in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
MacKay picked up the lead in the first feature after a battle between he and Ethan Hicken. Hicken tossed a chain in the late laps, giving the advantage to MacKay. Hicken was able to get back to the front in the second 25-lap feature, taking home the victory in the second race of the afternoon. Hicken would finish fourth overall when his two feature finishes were combined in a track record field of 14 cars.
Hailey Bland would finish second overall in the event after two third place finishes in her final Bandolero event. Bland was second in June at Scotia Speedworld and third overall at Oyster Bed Speedway. Bland is the only driver that finished within the top five in all five features contested this season on the TCM Bandolero Road Trip.
Track champion Addision Veinotte ended her first season of Bandolero racing with a third place overall finish in the TCM Battle by the Bay presented by Mallard Electric. Consistency of two six place finishes was enough for the third place spot overall in the event.
Landon Pierce, the 2023 track champion, entered Saturday with a perfect season on the TCM Bandolero Road Trip and was second to MacKay in feature one before breaking late in the second race, finishing 11th in the second 25-lap feature and fifth overall.
Rookie Ben Turple led the field to green in the second feature after drawing the first spot in the Conway Customz Bandolero Re-Draw. MacKay, Bland, Pierce and local driver Jake Campbell joined Turple in the final re-draw of the season
Drivers from three of the four Atlantic Provinces, including Newfoundland and Labrador, competed in the race. Thanks to lap sponsors, Mallard Electric, Tulco Electric and Bud’s Speedway, the competing teams split $4700 in cash and prizes for their efforts in the season finale!
