MARITIME STREET STOCK SERIES ROLLS INTO SHEDIAC SUNDAY
Track Release/Photo by Tanya Everett
(MONCTON, NB – July 15th, 2022) – The Shediac CENTRE For Speed is in action this Sunday, July 17th as the 3/8-mile oval hosts Round Three of the Maritime Street Stock Series. The 100-lap event at the Grand-Barachois, New Brunswick motorsports facility will bring the best Street Stock teams in the region to the CENTRE to compete in this extended distance test of driver and machine. The Late Model Sportsman division will compete in a 75-lap event with support class action from the Bombers, Ironmen, Mini Stocks and Bandoleros. Racing begins on Sunday at 2pm.
The CENTRE For Speed hosted the inaugural Maritime Street Stock Series event in 2021 with hometown favorite Michael Cormier from Grand-Barachois taking the checkered flag in a tight battle throughout the second half of the event. Cormier would go on to win the Maritime Street Stock Series championship later that season. Cormier returns to the CENTRE For Speed after winning the first race of the Series at Petty International Raceway in June and a podium finish a week later at Speedway 660. Kenny MacKenzie Jr (Salisbury, NB) scored the win in Round Two of the Series in Geary and will look to take full advantage of the Series with races at Oyster Bed Speedway (August) and Speedway Miramichi (October) still to come this season.
Over a dozen Street Stocks are expected for the marquee event, including fan favorite Martin Landry. Landry grew up in Grand-Barachois, cut his teeth on the CENTRE For Speed oval in Mini Stocks with a trophy case full of hardware to show for his racing accomplishments. He has since moved to the Street Stock division and will make his debut for the 2022 season at his home track on Sunday in front of a hometown crowd.
Due to rain earlier this season, Sunday marks the first full stock car card at the CENTRE For Speed since last season. Several competitors will roll into the CENTRE with a blank sheet of paper, meaning practice and qualifying will be critical to dialing in their cars on this neutral battleground. Throw the extra laps in the mix, some visiting teams looking to learn the CENTRE and the general excitement and anticipation to hit the track and you have the perfect recipe for an instant classic on Sunday afternoon in all classes.
The Late Model Sportsman class will see the track for the first time this season at the CENTRE. With a rained out Auto World Maritime Allstar Sportsman Series race still pending a rescheduled date, this event should see some Sportsman teams looking to get notes ahead of that race and the popular Atlantic Stock Car Championships in October – both events which draw healthy car counts.
The Bomber and Ironman classes are the only stock car class with laps on the track this year as the undercard to the popular Monster Mania, Burnout Blitz and Demolition shows. This entry level, affordable division of racing is catching on with new cars and drivers hopping in to the fray each event. While it may be an entry level class, it doesn’t mean the action does not live up to the hype as these drivers will thrill every lap around the oval!
The Bandolero and Mini Stock divisions also return to the CENTRE For Speed. The Bandolero division is the future of the sport with drivers beginning their racing career at eight years of age behind the wheel of these 30 horsepower racers. The Mini Stock division produces door-to-door and bumper-to-bumper action like no other, leaving fans on the edge of their seat with every lap!
Grandstand adult admission for Sunday’s Maritime Street Stock Series 100 is $20 for adults 16 to 64 years of age. Seniors 65+ years are $15 and children eight to 15 years are just $10! Kids aged seven and under are admitted free to the grandstands for this event. Pit admission is $30. All tickets for this event are available at the gates on race day, cash only.
