BURGOYNE BESTS FIELD FOR WIN ON TIM’S CORNER MOTORSPORTS OPENING DAY
(KINGSTON, NS – May 15th, 2022) – Matt Burgoyne (Bridgewater, NS) might still be a relative newcomer to the Valley Raceway Modified division but the former Four Cylinder champion is quickly making waves. Burgoyne picked up a convincing feature win during the Tim’s Corner Motorsports Opening Day at the quarter-mile dirt oval outside of Kingston, Nova Scotia.
Burgoyne rebounded from the first heat of the day to win the second heat ahead of Rick Balsor (Aylesford, NS) and raced to the feature victory ahead of AJ Watton (Aylesford, NS) and Jeff Cruickshank (Hantsport, NS). Watton and Cruickshank were the top Truck drivers in the marquee feature of the afternoon as the Trucks joined the Modifieds in the 20-lap finale. Modified rookie Nick Zaedow (Aylesford, NS) was second in the Modified division ahead of Balsor. Ed LeBlanc (Yarmouth, NS) completed the Truck podium.
Shawn Sanford (Aylesford, NS) picked up the first Modified heat win of the afternoon before being sidelined with mechanical gremlins. Watton won both Truck heats as an appetizer to his feature performance.
In the Four Cylinder division, Stephan Somerset (Nictaux, NS) put a stumble in the opening heat race behind him by winning the 20-lap feature event. Somerset took advantage early but held off a hard charging Tom Stewart (Nictaux, NS) in the closing laps to clinch the victory. Jesse Deveau (Greenwood, NS),a former Four Cylinder champion at Valley Raceway and current Late Model Sportsman competitor at Scotia Speedworld, hopped into a Honda this afternoon to complete the podium in the 11-car field.
Travis Atwater (Aylesford, NS) and Deveau won the first set of heats. Deveau also won the second heat and was joined by Stewart in taking a checkered flag in the second group of qualifiers.
