NEW QUALIFYING PROCEDURES – UPDATE MAY 19TH, 2020

OPEN QUALIFYING

Open Qualifying will remain the same (see below) and take place on a night separate from race night. Those sessions are located in the Tournament Session section of the Hosted Sessions page on the Members Site.

RACE NIGHT

This is where it changes a bit. We will take the Top 40 from open qualifying going forward into the Main Event show. For those that are outside the top 40 or miss the qualifying session all together for whatever reason will be able to compete in the “Non Qualifiers Race.”

NON QUALIFIERS RACE

The Non Qualifiers Race is a chance for some that might need more laps to get them. These races will have a fixed grid (41st in open qualifying will start 1st in the feature). The feature will be 30-50% of the length of the main event feature. will be time capped at 30 minutes and will start one hour prior to qualifying in the main event. If two races are required (over 66 drivers in open qualifying, maximum starting field in one Non Qualifier Race will be 26), races will begin 90 minutes before the show and will happen 45 minutes a part from each other. Example, Phoenix will be a 35-lap Non Qualifiers feature. The winner(s) will receive a transfer spot into qualifying for the feature, making it a 41 or 42 car field maximum. This event will not be carried on the broadcast.

MAIN EVENT

Forty-two drivers maximum will receive invites for the feature event. The format for the night is as follows.

Qualifying –> Two Laps –> Top Eight into Feature (top eight will be inverted for the feature).

Heat Races –> Four Races (Eight to Nine cars each) —> Top Three From Each (12) into Feature

Last Chance Qualifiers –> Two Races (10 or 11 cars each) —> Winner from Each (2).

Field Size – 22 Cars.

AS OF APRIL 14TH, 2020

Three Qualifying Servers will be set up under Hosted (Tournament) on designated nights, typically a night or two before the race. These nights will be announced with the races associated with them. These servers will be one hour open qualifiers, make as many laps as you want within the time, keeping in mind these are open sessions with all cars in the session on track. With that in mind, we have set an incident cap of 25, to be tweaked as we go down the road as need be.

We will take (at minimum) the top 50 to the race. The final spots will be filled by either qualifying times or promoters options, based on server slots, to make ~60 cars. Those cars will requalify, run heats and LCQs to make a 27 or 28 car starting grid for the feature event. That way, we can have a “short track” type event for the broadcasts for our fans and sponsors who want to feel like they are at the real track with the heat race format iRacing provides.

With this comes cooperation on your end as a driver…

Instead of sending out passwords for final sessions, we will be making a second league page to manage who gets into the final race session following qualifying, hence why we will time trial on a different night. We will invite those who make the top 50 to the new league page the morning after qualifying or the morning of the race if we have to use the league page for a race the night prior. We will have to move drivers in and out of this new page, so bear with us. Any driver in the current league page can qualify for any race, but in order to access the race session/feature events, they will need to accept a league invite from the second league.

This is going to be a learning process and a lot more work for me on our end, but with the way iRacing has this set up, it is the easiest way to do it without running multiple heats at the same time or scrapping heats all together. It is also the fairest way to do it to give everyone a chance to attempt to race their way into the show instead of racing for a server slot.
