(Aug. 13, 2015) Speedway 660 continues its busy August with the Firecracker 150 this Saturday night at 6:30. The best Sportsman cars in Atlantic Canada will invade the Geary Woods for one of their biggest races of the season. Dave O’Blenis, who has won the last two Firecrackers, is considered one of the favourites heading into the race.
“We’ve been pretty good the last couple of years in the Sportsman car, but we know we’ll be facing some stiff competition on Saturday night” said O’Blenis, who won the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman 100 earlier this season. “It’s important to spend some extra time on the car in the shop this week, have a good run in the heat race, start up front in the 150, stay out of trouble and save something for the final 25 laps.”
O’Blenis, who also runs a RE/MAX Group Four Realty Pro Stock at Speedway 660, will be joined by fellow Pro Stocker Lonnie Sommerville in the Firecracker 150. The weekly Martins Home Heating Sportsman roster, including point leader Randy Moore and O’Blenis’s daughter Alexandra, will also provide strong competition. Speedway 660 also expects drivers, from other race tracks across the region, to visit the Geary Woods for the race.
“The Firecracker 150 is always one of our most exciting races of the season and with the talent we’ve got lined up, Saturday’s race should be one of the best in years” said Speedway 660’s Max Roy. “Drivers will be going all out for the win, but they’ll also use this race as a tune-up for the Irving I-24-150 Sportsman race coming up in three weeks during the Irving Blending & Packaging SpeedWeekend.”
Race fans will also see the DMR Auto Sales & Service Street Stocks and Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters on Saturday night. Adult ticket prices are $20; Youth tickets, for kids between eight and 16, are $14 and adult pit passes are $5. Admission is always free for fans seven and under.
The rain date for the Firecracker 150 is Sunday at 2PM. If the weather is unsettled on Saturday morning fans and race teams should call the race line at 506-454-7223 or visit www.speedway660.com for race day status updates.
Coming up on August 22nd, Speedway 660 hosts its popular Fan Appreciation Night followed by the Night of Champions on the 29th. The Irving Blending and Packaging SpeedWeekend will run from September 4th to 7th.
Speedway 660 is one of Canada’s premier stock car racing facilities. Located in New Brunswick’s Fredericton region, it attracts race teams and fans from the Maritimes, New England and Quebec. The Speedway 660 racing season runs from mid May until Labour Day Weekend. SpeedWeekend 2015, one of the most prestigious short track events in eastern North America, wraps up Speedway 660’s racing season.
