(Wednesday, July 29th – Sydney, NS) – While they may be brothers off the track, Chris and Kyle Reid are putting their on track rivalry to the forefront this Saturday, August 1st when the NAPA Sportsman Series returns to Cape Breton Miners Memorial Speedway for the Gillis Home Hardware 100.The event, which will also feature stock car racing action in the Cape Breton Trailer Sales Street Stock and Atlantic Cat/Hewitt Rentals Mini Stock divisions, is slated for a 3pm start at the Sydney, Nova Scotia oval.
The Reid brothers, both originally from Sydney but now call Fort McMurray, Alberta home, lead the NAPA Sportsman Series into competition at their home track Saturday. Chris Reid, who has won the two rounds the series has contested at Cape Breton Miners Memorial Speedway, leads his brother Kyle by a slim three points heading into Saturday afternoon. Darren Price (Main-A-Dieu) has put himself well into the championship battle after four races on the NAPA Sportsman Series, sitting just five points behind Chris Reid. Series veteran Shawn Waterfield (Sydney) and rookie Joey Rudderham (Marion Bridge) are tied for fourth overall in the standings.
The NAPA Sportsman Series last raced on July 17th at Riverside International Speedway with Russell Smith Jr. (Lakeside) winning the Highland Home Building Centres 100.
Vance MacDonald (Sydney) takes a healthy 23 point lead into the Saf-way Auto Parts 25 for the Cape Breton Trailer Sales Street Stock division on Saturday. John Halliday (Sydney) has Jeff Adamsson (Lower L’Ardoise) nipping at his bumper after two races with just a four point advantage for the runner-up spot in the division. With more cars expected to enter the division as the season races on, the competition will continue to get steeper for the entire field in the Street Stock division.
The Atlantic Cat/Hewitt Rentals Mini Stock division drivers will run an extended 50-lap feature on Saturday presented by Ramsay’s Honda. Local favorite and reigning Rookie of the Year Kody Quinn of Glace Bay has a six point lead over multi-time New Brunswick Mini Stock champion JR Lawson (Shubenacadie). Kyle MacMillan (Dartmouth), who took the checkered flag first the last time the Mini Stock division was on the track in July, sits third after his win.
