Shelburne, Nova Scotia’s Paul Goulden Leads Standings After Two Events
(Tuesday, July 28th – Dartmouth, NS) – The Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour is back in action this Saturday night, August 1st when the series heads to Oyster Bed Speedway for Round Three on the 2015 schedule. The Action Car and Truck Accessories 50 marks the first stop for the Tour in Prince Edward Island in over five years and will begin a stretch of four consecutive weekends of racing for the series. The three division card, which also includes the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour and the Provincial Credit Union – Stella Maris Branch Street Stocks, gets underway at 6pm.
While the Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour will visit five unique racing venues in 2015, this is the first time since 2010 the series has contested a race on Prince Edward Island and at Oyster Bed Speedway. The tight, 1/3-mile, high banked oval provides some exciting racing and with a field full of young, up and coming Maritime talents and cagey veterans all looking for the checkered flag, fans are in for a thrilling Action Car and Truck Accessories 50.
The second round of the series took place on Friday, July 17th at Riverside International Speedway and when all the dust settled, it was Jarrett Butcher (Porter’s Lake, NS) credited with the victory in the Brycon Construction 50. The win was his second career Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour victory after winning the season opener in 2014 and was Butcher’s first victory at Riverside International Speedway.
Butcher is second in the point standings heading into the Action Car and Truck Accessories 50 to Shelburne, Nova Scotia’s Paul Goulden. Goulden is the only driver to finish on the podium in the first two events of the season and has a five point advantage on Butcher. “Miss Rawdon Rocket” Emily Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines, NS) sits third, just one point behind Butcher while defending series champion Justin MacNeill (Bedford, NS) finds himself just two points out of third place and eight points out of the top spot in the standings.
Nicholas Naugle (Dartmouth, NS), who stumbled to the finish line at Riverside International Speedway with engine problems, is fifth in the standings and leads a tight pack of drivers behind him, including Cole Tanner (Shubenacadie, NS), Jeff Cruickshank (Hantsport, NS), Adam Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines, NS), Joey Lawson (Porter’s Lake, NS), Brad Brown (Halifax, NS), Dustin Tucker (Fredericton, NB) Craig Chisholm (Antigonish, NS), Kevin MacDonald (Antigonish, NS) and Arnie Spinney (Coldbrook, NS). Just 34 points is the gap between the fifth place driver in the standings and the one that sits 14th in the championship.
Cory Hall (Jolicure, NB), who won the season opening race at Scotia Speedworld and is a former Bandolero winner at Oyster Bed Speedway, sits 15th in the standings after two events on the schedule.
Tanner is the top newcomer thus far in the Rookie of the Year chase, currently having a five point advantage on Adam Meehan. Tucker, Chisholm, MacDonald and Hall all look to catch to Tanner and Meehan in the Rookie of the Year championship as the series enters the Action Car and Truck Accessories 50.
Pit gates open for competitors in the Action Car and Truck Accessories 50 on Saturday, August 1st at 12:30pm; with racing beginning at 6pm. Tickets are available at the gate on race day. Complete venue information for Oyster Bed Speedway can be found on the race track’s website at www.OysterBedSpeedwayPEI.com.
The Action Car and Truck Accessories 50 kicks off a busy month of August for the series. The Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour will be right back at it next Saturday, August 8th when the series returns to Scotia Speedworld for the Scotia Tire 50. Nicholas Naugle edged out his competition in 2014 to take the Scotia Tire trophy home to Dartmouth.
