(May 20th, 2015 – Dartmouth, NS) The long Maritime winter has brought a number of changes to the Maritime League of Legends Tour for 2015, but it will be a familiar stage in Scotia Speedworld that will play host to the first event of the new season.
Among the changes include a new series sponsor in Atlantic Tiltload, a new championship point fund for eligible full-time competitors totaling $5,000, the announcement that the popular touring division will return to Oyster Bed Speedway in Prince Edward Island for the first time in nearly five years and Tim Terry filling the role as public address announcer for the series. While it has been a busy off-season, the cars and stars are ready to return to the race track with their season opener at Scotia Speedworld outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia on Saturday afternoon for the Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends 50.
Pre-season registrations will show there will be a healthy mix of returning veterans and new blood to the series when the green flag flies this weekend. The reigning series champion Justin MacNeill (Bedford) knows how to get around the 3/10-mile oval at Scotia Speedworld quickly and has won multiple features at his home track. While he failed to win a race on the Maritime League of Legends Tour in 2014, he did manage to win a feature at Scotia Speedworld in their Legend division.
Nicholas Naugle (Dartmouth) turned heads last year by winning a season high three events on the series, including the Scotia Tire 50 at Scotia Speedworld last August. Naugle will look to back up his hot rookie season by getting his sophomore season off on the right foot Saturday afternoon, but over a dozen others will look to also get a step up on their competition with a checkered flag on Saturday. “Miss Rawdon Rocket” Emily Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines), Jeff Cruickshank (Hantsport), Jarrett Butcher (Porter’s Lake), Danny Harvey (Lantz), Paul Goulden (Shelburne) and Joey Lawson (Porter’s Lake) are among 2015 pre-season registrants that finished in the top ten in the championship standings in 2014. Butcher is the defending winner of the Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends 50 at Scotia Speedworld.
Joining them on the series include at least four drivers whom will be looking to capture the Rookie of the Year Award on the Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour. Bandolero division standouts Cory Hall (Jolicure, NB), Adam Meehan (Rawdon Gold Mines) and Cole Tanner (Shubenacadie) have made the move to the Legend division and have each signaled intentions to run the full seven race series in 2014. The trio owns a total of five track championships and dozens of feature victories amongst them in Bandolero competition and each will be a factor over the new season. They will be joined by Fredericton, New Brunswick’s Dustin Tucker in their Rookie of the Year chase. Tucker is the son of three-time Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour champion Shawn Tucker, racing is in Dustin’s blood and he has chosen the Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour as his home in 2015.
Entries continue to trickle in by the day as teams make finishing touches on their race cars for one of the most anticipated season opening events in recent series history.
The Atlantic Tiltload Maritime League of Legends Tour 50 is a part of Scotia Speedworld’s opening weekend for the 2015 racing season. Included on the Saturday, May 23rd card is also the opening round for the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour as they contest the Lucas Oil 100. Racing action gets under way with qualifying races for both feature events at 4pm. Tickets are available at the gate on race day.
