Opening Weekend Triple Header on TCM Coming May 16th to 18th

TCM coverage presented by MacKinnon’s Trucking, Dulux Paints Bayers Lake

While the Maritimes are still blanketed under a white covering of snow, in less than two months the sound of race motors will return to three tracks in the region – and you’ll be able to follow along with all the action, if you can’t be there in person, thanks to Tim’s Corner Motorsports (TCM)!

TCM is pleased to announce plans for the opening weekend of racing in the Maritimes, dubbed TCM Opening Weekend presented by MacKinnon’s Trucking and Dulux Paints Bayers Lake. TCM will be delivering opening day coverage from Petty International Raceway on Saturday, May 16th, Speedway 660 on Sunday, May 17th and Oyster Bed Speedway on Monday, May 18th, including race day updates via Facebook and Twitter social media platforms, post race reports and an audio wrap-up of the weekend featuring driver interviews on Tim’s Corner Unplugged. If all rolls as scheduled, opening weekend will feature 14 main features with well over 100 drivers taking green flags over the three day span of the Victoria Day long weekend.

The Maritime racing season gets kicked off on Saturday, May 16th, 4pm, at Petty International Raceway with the LaFarge Aggregates and Concrete Season Opener. The five Petty International Raceway house divisions will kick off the season, highlighted by the biggest scheduled feature of the weekend – a 75-lap opener for the Late Model Sportsman division. The Pro Stock class, C Max Paint and Body Shop Street Stock, Mister Transmission Mini Stock and Leisure Days/CRC RV Bandolero divisions will also contest point races on the first card of racing in the region for the 2015 season.

Speedway 660 is second on the schedule to kick off their 2015 season, with their annual Riverview Ford Lincoln Season Opener. Four of the five Weekly Point Racing champions are expected to begin their title defenses on Sunday, May 17th at 2pm, with Cole Tanner of Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia, who is moving to the Maritime League of Legends Tour with the Overall Experience, leaving the only champions hole in the Westwood Estates Bandolero division.

Brent Roy (Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman, photo by McCarthy Photographic), Luc McLaughlin (DMR Auto Sales and Service Street Stocks) and Jeremy Doran (Fredericton Gun Shop Sharp Shooters) all scored their first career championships in their respective divisions in 2014 and will look to defend from a stout field of competitors hungry from a long winter in “New Brunswick’s Capital Region.” Five-time Re/Max Group Four Realty Pro Stock champion Dave O’Blenis will look to add to his trophy case at the Riverview Ford Lincoln Season Opener with a trophy to kick off his title defense. The Geary track is the only one that contests a Weekly Point Series for stock cars every weekend in New Brunswick and will run the first three weeks of the season at Sunday at 2pm before shifting to their Saturday at 6:30pm timeslot in June.

The story is quite different at Oyster Bed Speedway when it comes to defending champions, with only one champion looking at back-to-back titles. News broke in November that Street Stock titlist Mark MacLean was building a new car and his old one was heading out the door to Jeff MacInnis, creating one of many storylines heading into the Street Stock season at Prince Edward Island’s only stock car oval. Outlaw champion Tyler MacLean will be scaling back to a part-time role in the class, leaving the championship spot open for the taking. Mini Stock champion Charles Woolaver sent his championship winning Neon out the door to New Brunswick over the winter and is looking at a run in the Outlaw class for 2015, while Robbie MacEwen is moving up to the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour after a championship run in the top flight Late Model class at the high banked oval.

Oyster Bed Speedway was the first track to get a race in last season, racing on their traditional Monday afternoon slot on the Victoria Day weekend. Jason MacCallum (Late Model), Mark LeClair (Street Stocks), MacLean (Outlaw) and Jason Baglole (Mini Stock) took home feature victories on Opening Day in 2014. The 2015 racing season goes green on Prince Edward Island on Monday, May 18th at 2pm.

*Note, we are still awaiting a complete schedule from Oyster Bed Speedway. Track co-owner Robbie MacLean tells TCM the schedule is awaiting one more thing that is needed to be ironed out. Expect the schedule from the Island soon.
