McKay Records First NASCAR Top Ten, Finishes Eighth On Night Seven at World Series

Even if it is a NASCAR Whelen All American Series event at the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, it is still a NASCAR event.

Sarah McKay recorded her first career NASCAR top ten finish after crossing the stripe in ninth during the PPG Top Guns 100 for the Pro Late Model division at New Smyrna Speedway. Following the post race technical inspection, McKay’s finish was advanced to eighth place after Austin Nason, who battled hard with eventual winner Dalton Armstrong, failed post race technical inspection.

Josh Collins and birthday boy Denver Foran competed in the 50-lap Super Late Model race, with Foran recording a tenth place finish. Collins, who had an issue in practice with a missing axle cap, finished one lap down in 18th in the 35 car field. The race was won by David Garbo Jr.

With two races to go, McKay sits tenth place in the points for the PPG Pro Late Model division, Foran is 10th and Collins 15th in the Super Late Model division. Zane Smith, who is driving a Gary Crooks prepared car with DJ Casey on the crew, finished fifth this evening after scoring his first Super Late Model win on Wednesday, and is three points behind point leader Ty Majeski in third place in the standings.

The World Series of Asphalt continues on Friday with 35-lap features for both the Pro and Super Late Model divisions, a 35-lap for the Florida Modifieds and a 100-lap Richie Evans Memorial event for the Tour Modifieds.
