Light ‘Em Up: Cape Breton Miners Memorial Speedway Releases 2015 Dates
Cape Breton’s stock car oval expands to five races, lights on list for 2015
After a successful first year under the ownership of Bill and Lynne Vasil, officials at Cape Breton Miners Memorial Speedway are excited to present their 2015 schedule of events.
The season expands to five races from the four that were held in the inaugural season with the Vasils at the helm of the iconic Sydney, Nova Scotia oval. In 2014, Cape Breton welcomed back stock car racing with grandstands full of excited race fans and they were treated to growing car counts throughout the year that produced some of the best short track racing seen in the region over the Summer.
Bill Vasil is looking forward to the racing, and making upgrades, to his facility in 2015. “It has been difficult to schedule events and attempting to upgrade the facility to prepare for night racing,” Vasil said. “In 2014, getting the doors open at the track were the main concern, and lights were not an option in our first year. We quickly realized that without lights, our schedule and all our events were dictated by daylight hindering our ability to be flexible. Our wish list is full for 2015, but lights are one of our top two priorities. Fans can be assured they will be seeing some great racing at Cape Breton Miners Memorial Speedway.”
Once again, the NAPA Sportsman Series will highlight the season and will be supported by the Cape Breton Trailer Sales Street Stocks and Cat Rental Store Mini Stocks.
“It is a balancing act running a limited schedule between the two tracks (Cape Breton Miners Memorial Speedway and Riverside International Speedway) for the NAPA Sportsman Series,” said Vasil. “Both venues have proved to be a great match up and the points will be linked in some way again this year. We are expecting some new competitors with some drivers from the Sydney area moving up through the ranks.”
While Vasil points to many of the details still have yet to be finalized with the schedule, there are plans to put the under card classes at the track in the spotlight this season. “We are attempting to give our Mini Stock and Street Stock competitors a night to shine as the Sportsman division had taken much of the spotlight in 2014.”
An open practice for all classes will be held on Saturday, May 9th with the first of five races to be held on Saturday, June 6th. More information on the schedule, including start times for the races, will be announced at a later date.
Schedule of Events:
