TCM Best of Maritime Awards Results – Fan Favorite Tracks, Series, Food
According to Maritime race fans, Geary, New Brunswick’s Speedway 660 is the best place to enjoy a race weekly within the summer.
It is also the best place to enjoy a snack while watching a race.
Fans have voted Speedway 660, by a slim margin, over Scotia Speedworld and Oyster Bed Speedway as the Fan Favorite Weekly Track in the Maritimes, while fans also voted for Speedway 660’s famous “Speedway Fries” as the Fan Favorite Race Track Food Staple.
Petty International Raceway was voted in as the Fan Favorite Monthly Event Track, Riverside Speedway won the nod from the fans for the Fan Favorite Special Events Track while the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour is the Fan Favorite Touring Series.
The closest of all five track and series related categories was during Round One of the TCM Best of Maritime Awards voting, when 42% of the nearly 600 voters chose Speedway 660 over Enfield, Nova Scotia’s Scotia Speedworld as their favorite track that operates weekly throughout the Maritimes. The margin of victory was 35 votes, or approximately 6% of the total vote. Oyster Bed Speedway, located in Oyster Bed Bridge, Prince Edward Island, was third with 22% of the vote.
Also on the first ballot was the vote for the Fan Favorite Monthly Event track, which is for a track that operates more than four weekends a season, but does not operate on a weekly bases. Petty Raceway, located in River Glade, New Brunswick, took 68% of the vote to win in a landslide, by 300 votes, over Shediac’s CENTRE For Speed (17%), Norton, New Brunswick’s Redneck Raceway (12%) and Salmon River, Nova Scotia’s Lake Doucette Motor Speedway (3%).
The second ballot of the 2014 TCM Best of Maritime Awards featured the Fan Favorite Special Events Track, Fan Favorite Race Track Food and Fan Favorite Touring Series. The big winner on the second ballot was Riverside International Speedway in James River, Nova Scotia, capturing 61% of vote in the Fan Favorite Special Events Track. In second was Miramichi, New Brunswick’s Speedway Miramichi (24%), followed by Sydney, Nova Scotia’s Cape Breton Miners Memorial Speedway (9%) and Kingston, Nova Scotia’s Valley Raceway (6%). Riverside International Speedway is home to four race weekends a season, including the IWK 250 presented by Steve Lewis Auto Body. In 2014, a rain out in June gave race fans a dream double header, which saw the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series and the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour run on back-to-back days in August.
Speaking of the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour, they won the Fan Favorite Touring Series Award amongst Maritime based Touring Series. The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour, which visits five race tracks in the region, three of whom won Fan Favorite Track Awards, took 51% of the over 750 votes, winning the award over the NAPA Sportsman Series (20%), the Maritime League of Legends Tour (12%), the Atlantic Modified Tour (10%) and the Eastern Super Mini Cup Series (7%).
Tim’s stomach chose the five finalists for the TCM Fan Favorite Race Track Food, while the fans chose the overall winner of the award. Speedway 660’s Speedway Fries may be famous around the region, but they are now award winning as they took home 39% of the total vote to lay claim to the TCM Fan Favorite Race Track Food award. Coming in second was the Riverside Speedway Footlong Hot Dog (21%), followed by the Oyster Bed Speedway Popcorn Chicken (19%), the Petty Raceway Ribbon Fries (16%) and the CENTRE For Speed Bologna Burger (4%). Each food is unique in style and taste to these tracks in the region and if you have yet to try them, be sure to put them on your list for 2015!
