Friday marks the second leg of the Twin 50’s of 2014 for the Thunder and Lightning divisions at Scotia Speedworld. In July, it was Stevie Lively (Shubenacadie) taking the Thunder 50 win over Dave Matthews (Kennetcook) and Matthew Warren (White’s Lake), in what some described as the best race seen all season. Matthews occupies the point lead in the Thunder class by 30 markers over defending champion Warren, who finished deep in the field last week after a mechanical failure. Drew MacEachern (Dartmouth) joins Warren, Lively and Matthews as feature winners thus far in 2014.
Richard Patrick won the Lightning 50 in July and will look to complete the sweep of the Twin 50’s on Friday night. Patrick, of Halifax, slipped in the point standings two weeks ago and now sits 22 points off the pace of Deven Smith (Lakeside), who is searching for his first championship in the class his brothers Russell and Jorden each own titles in. Scott Thibodeau (Williamswood), Mike Brown (Urbania), Tim Horton’s at the Airport Rookie Steve Matthews (Bedford) and Richie Moore (Elmsdale) have won features this season in the highly competitive class and will look to score their second wins of the season Friday night.
Dan Smith (Lower Sackville) can take one step closer towards his third consecutive Coors Light Truck Championship Friday night with a solid finish on Twin 50’s Night. Smith has a 15 point lead on Tim Horton’s at the Airport Rookie Cory Leonard and 27 points on Cy Harvey (Elmsdale). While out of the point picture, Jason Fenton (Eastern Passage) has lit up the track with five feature wins in nine races and will be looking for his sixth this Friday night.
Adam Meehan (Rawdon) scored a pivotal win on Atlantic Cat 250 weekend in the Hydraulics Plus Bandolero division. Meehan moved to second in the standings, a dozen points behind Braden Langille (Shubenacadie), with his victory last week as he searches for his second consecutive Bandolero crown at Scotia Speedworld. Cole Tanner (Shuebancadie), who has won three times so far in the 2014 campaign, sits third in the standings and well within the championship chase.
