Street Stocks on Oyster Bed Undercard Saturday
Track Release by Jeremy Macdonald
OYSTER BED BRIDGE – It will be a night of fast-paced racing, action and thrills as Oyster Bed Speedway welcomes the Maritime Pro Stock Tour on Saturday night.
Not to be outdone by the Pros, two of the four local Divisions will be running alongside the tour, with Street Stock division guaranteed to continue to dazzle fans with one of the most competitive divisions in all the Maritimes.
Last Saturday night saw a Speedway ‘legend’ climb back into a car after a two-month retirement.
Emmett Donahue was back in fine form, taking to the track like a pro as he took part in the very first race of the night.
Donahue shook off the rust in his opening heat finishing third as Street Stock Division leader Mark MacLean secured the victory. Donahue bettered his finish in his second heat, scoring the victory much to the delight of the hundreds of fans in attendance.
In the feature, the veteran driver would again had the crowd going after he and former Division Champion, Nick Chaisson, made contact, sending Donahue to the infield in the closing laps.
Donahue waited on the infield for the race to conclude, eventually coming back on the track to block the path of Chaisson as the cars were exiting the track. Chaisson eased up to the car, blocking Donahue’s path.
When Chaisson ran out of room to move, he hit the gas attempting to push the veteran out of the way. As smoke curled up from the rear tires and the crowd cheered on ruckus, both drivers were shown a black flag for the post-race antics.
Alex Sheehan capitalized on the day with a Feature win, moving him closer to Street Stock Division lead. The sophomore driver now sits in second place overall in the Division.
The Mini Stocks will also run a 25 lap feature Saturday night.
Racing gets underway at 5:15 p.m. with the Pro-Stock time trials.
The Speedway opens to the public at 12:30 p.m. with first practice at 2.
