Baglole Remains Perfect, MacEwen Muscles to Late Model Win at OBS
Jason Baglole remains perfect this season after collecting the Chris’s Bobcat Services Mini Stock Super Series Feature #1 on Sunday, but he led no laps on track in the main feature.
In a wild 25-lap feature, Scott Perry crossed the line first following an altercation with leaders Charles Woolaver and Tyler Smith on the final restart inside five laps remaining. Contact between the two sent Woolaver, defending Mini Stock Super Series champion, into the infield and collected it back up onto the race track and into the #27 of Smith. Both drivers were black flagged by race officials for the incident.
Perry, meanwhile, started fifth on that restart and after all the fracas in Turn Two, entered Turn Three with the lead and held it to the checkered flag. A tech infraction with the #66 car would place Perry at the back of the pack at the end of the day, giving the win to the second place driver – you guessed it – Jason Baglole. Randy MacTavish and Andy Shea moved up to second and third, respectively.
With Baglole winning the heat and semi on the afternoon to go with the sweep on Opening Day, Baglole is batting 1.000 on the season and is, at this point, the only driver in Atlantic Canada to sweep their qualifiers and features through two race meets.
The Central Engine Services Late Model feature showcased some of the best racing of the afternoon from flag to flag. While eight drivers duked it out for third for most of the race, Brodie MacQuarrie and Robbie MacEwen went at it out front. With MacQuarrie having track position early in each race and MacEwen having a fast car on the long haul, the two would run and hide from the rest of the field, leaving it up to themselves to decide who would carry the flag. MacQuarrie captured the heat and semi in the Late Models with MacEwen on his tail, while MacEwen outlasted MacQuarrie on a restart with five laps to go to take the feature win.
Mark LeClair passed Alex Sheehan in the late laps to take home the Stella Maris Credit Union Street Stock feature for the second consecutive race meet. Sheehan had won both his heat and the semi and fell one race short of the clean sweep. Two-time titlist Nick Chaisson finished third in the feature.
After a tech infraction took his win away on Opening Day, Brandon Conohan once again finished first in the Duffy’s Service Center Mini Outlaw division. This time though, he had to hold off the #45 of Kendall Palmer, who made repeated attempts to get by the #74 in both the Semi and Feature.
The next event for Oyster Bed Speedway is this Sunday, June 8th at 2pm with the Late Model Super Series Feature #1 highlighting the full card. This is the final Sunday at 2pm post time before switching to the traditional Saturday at 7pm time slot for the bulk of the 2014 season.
