Street Stocks to Rock Riverside for First Time in a Decade on August 15th

It’s been over ten years since Riverside International Speedway has played host to the Street Stock class.

That will all change in 2014.

Cape Breton Miners Memorial Speedway announced today on Facebook that they have struck a deal to put on a special event Street Stock race on Friday, August 15th. The Street Stocks will play support to the NAPA Sportsman Series and their 100-lap feature on the night. The announcement marks the return of a two-day weekend in which the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will anchor on Saturday, August 16th with the Wilson Equipment 300 supporting Red Cross Disaster Relief. An announcement on the support class for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series is expected to be announced soon.

Both the NAPA Sportsman Series and the Cape Breton Miners Memorial Speedway (CBMMS) Street Stock division are overseen by Bill and Lynne Vasil. The couple purchased the Sydney, Nova Scotia track in January and are aiming for a Saturday, July 5th opening to the Sydney oval. CBMMS will run three house divisions in 2014, including the Street Stocks, Late Model Sportsman and Four Cylinder Mini Stocks.

On the other side of the coin, this is the first time since John Chisholm re-purchased the facility in James River, Nova Scotia that Street Stocks will contest a race event at Riverside Speedway. The Street Stocks were a part of the card when the track last contested a weekly card, which came to an end in the early 2000s with the track ownership change.

With Petty International Raceway off that weekend and Oyster Bed Speedway and Speedway 660 running on Saturday of the weekend, interest for the event is expected to grow quickly. More information will be announced as the event gets closer.
