UPDATE 04/11 – Racing Community Rallies Around Zoey

Speedsport Update – April 11th, 2014
Dana Duncan was at the show with Kyle Orr Friday night. Duncan plans on running a few races, number to be determined, in a Sportsman car at Petty Raceway. Dana says that Zoey is doing better, they just got back to Saint John in the last week after spending three weeks or so in Halifax. The first time she was discharged from the IWK, she began to get headaches again and they discovered fluid forming. They drained the fluid in her head and within hours her spirits changed. The treatment that she is going through now has a high success rate according to the doctors and the community support has been unreal. The folks at Aspen Dental even sent a package of Danica Patrick gear to Zoey and Miss Patrick herself has been contacted. You can continue to donate towards her road to recovery on their GoFundMe account here.
Update – March 20th, 2014
Received a message from Dana Duncan last night with an update on Zoey. She has been diagnosed with a type of slow moving cancer that will require up to 18 months of chemotherapy. The treatments will be targeted to shrink down and kill the tumor so Zoey can live her life to the fullest. The treatments start this Friday and the family has been told they can go home as early as Saturday. A lot of these treatments can be done close to home in Saint John, NB but they will have to keep coming back to the IWK in Halifax, NS to monitor results.
The family thanks the community for the support they have received over the past couple of weeks. The community itself deserves a pat on the back, with over $15,000 raised in just under six days! Way to go!
You can continue to raise awareness by sharing this story, the GoFundMe campaign below or, better yet, donate towards the campaign. As mentioned, Zoey has a long road ahead and every bit of support will go a long way for her and the family.

I was winding down work last night in the office when I got a message from Dana Duncan. Fans will know Duncan for many years behind the wheel of various Late Models (Pro Stock and Sportsman) with a #79 on the door. Most recently, Duncan drove the #79 Vet’s Taxi car in 2013, finishing off his ride in the car with a podium finish at the CENTRE For Speed in the Atlantic Championships. I remember that victory lane as being an emotional one, knowing it was his final ride in the car, there were some tears shed on the front straight of the Grand Barachois track after the run that showcased the pure talent of the Quispamsis driver behind the wheel.
The message I got from Duncan Thursday also had a lot of emotion in it, but a contrast from what was shown in Shediac in October.
Duncan’s little one, six year old Zoey, is currently at the IWK Health Centre here in Halifax. After headaches led to a visit to her doctor, a CAT scan revealed a tumor. Tests have further uncovered that the tumor is cancerous and Zoey has a surgery scheduled for Friday at the IWK to look into removing a piece of the tumor to determine further treatment. Her family awaits with her in Halifax hoping for good news on the prognosis and what the next step is in her recovery.
In the meanwhile, a GoFundMe account has been set up to accept donations for Zoey to help offset medical costs. As I’m sure we can all imagine, this time is hard on Dana, Pam and the whole family and every little bit will help. Our racing family has been through some tough times, especially in these last twelve months and I’ve seen how we can rally around and raise funds and the spirits of those in need.
If you are able, click the big blue link below and donate towards the cause via the GoFundMe account. Every little bit will help. As of this post, nearly $2,500 has been raised in the 11 hours the campaign has been up and that number continues to climb. If you are not financially able to donate at this time, share this story or share the link to the GoFundMe account, spread the word and let the community know we are behind Zoey in her journey.
For those wishing to write a message to Dana, Pam, Zoey and the family, you can do so by writing on our Facebook wall or emailing us at news@timscorner.ca and we will pass on any messages we receive. Our thoughts and prayers are with Zoey and her family in this tough time.
