Petty International Raceway Announces 2013 Schedule
RIVER GLADE, NB (January 19, 2013) – The owners of Petty International Raceway are proud to announce the inaugural Caleb Dunn Memorial weekend, to be held at the facility August 3 and 4. The event will pay homage to local racing legend, the late Caleb Dunn – an inaugural member of the Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame, and is expected to be a highlight of the 2013 season which will include 11 race dates spanning seven weekends between May and September.
“We’re please to be able to do this for the Dunn’s and for our racing community,” said Craig McFetridge, co-owner of Petty International Raceway. “It’s important to honour our stock car racing heritage in the Maritimes, and we’re extremely proud of what local guys like Caleb Dunn accomplished in their racing careers.”
The Caleb Dunn Memorial weekend will see all four of Petty’s regular racing divisions featured (GT Enterprises Sportsman, Mister Transmission Mini Stock, Leisure Days RV Bandolero, C-Max Paint and Body Shop Supplies Street Stock) and culminate with a 200-lap GT Enterprises Sportsman race on Saturday August 4 – the longest (lap count) sportsman race in the Maritimes.
The longest running stock car race in Canada, the 49th River Glade International, is set for August 23-24 and will again see two segments: one on Friday August 23 that will feature the Jones Auto Body Twin 75s for the Sportsman, and one on Saturday August 24 featuring the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour.
Two other double-header weekends are also on tap for the 2013 season: May 31 and June 1 featuring a Sportsman 100 on Friday and the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour on Saturday; and June 29-30 when the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour will visit on the Saturday and Sunday will see a Canada Day celebration featuring a Sportsman 100.
The season will kick off May 18 with a $2,500-to-win Sportsman 150; two more events will complete the 2013 schedule, one on July 13 featuring a Sportsman 100, and the season finale on September 21 with details to be announced.
Caleb Dunn, from Salisbury, competed for more than 30 years (1951 to 1989) at tracks all over the Maritimes, the eastern U.S. as far south as Florida, and in Ontario. He earned more than 200 wins in his legendary No. 12. Mr. Dunn passed away May 28, 2012; he was 84.
