Sydney Track Gets New Name, Tentative Opening Saturday, July 5th
The Speedway in Sydney, formally known for many years as Island Speedway has a new name.
The new owners asked the youth of today to submit a name for the track; keeping history and culture in mind. That they did and many great entry’s were received. Coal mining became the main industry at the turn of the century and was the primary cause for growth on the Island. For many years, family’s were effected by the coal mines on several levels; economic growth, the creation of new towns and the sacrifices made by many miners, all influenced life. Therefore we would like to honour the Island by renaming the speedway, Cape Breton Miners Memorial Speedway.
We would like to thank all that have submitted names. We will announce the winner’s name shortly
Thank you everyone
Note – a Facebook event has been published that states Saturday, July 5th as opening night. More information is to be announced as the event this closer, but has been confirmed as the tentative first event for Cape Breton Miners Memorial Speedway.
