Miramichi News and Notes – MONSTER Eliminator Demolition on Saturday, Oct. 19th
This is it, folks.
Tim’s Corner Motorsports will be heading back to Miramichi for the second time this season, this time to cover one of, if not the, biggest demolition events this region has seen in a very long time. We’re going to talk racing in a second, but first, let’s dive into this demolition a bit.
For those stock car readers of the site that have never been to a demolition event in Miramichi, I’ve been told it’s a unique event all on its own. I’ve never been to one in the ‘chi myself, but after hearing in September about the demolitions, from the packed stands to the edge-of-your-seat action, I had to mark this one on my calendar.
And so did guys like Martin Landry.
As pictured, the Petty Raceway Street Stock standout will be at the track on Saturday with a demolition car. With $3,000 on the line for the winner of the MONSTER Eliminator Enduro, plus more cash bonuses throughout the day for the preliminary events, it could potentially be a big payday for a driver. In the case of Landry, the team has a motor lay down on them at the end of the year and a $3,000 boost could go a long way to putting in another powerplant for 2014.
Preliminary events include a 10-lap Dash for Cash, Powder Puff, Crossfire, Bag Race, Back-Up Race and an eight lap Figure 8 race. There will also be a burnout competition prior to the Monster Eliminator. The point? There’s a lot of entertainment on Saturday afternoon, and you’ll want to be there for it.

Oh, but wait, we have racing on the oval too!
When the card was announced for the 19th, a Mini Stock/Four Cylinder 50 lapper was alongside all the demolition events on the card – and it seems to have attracted a few teams from away. At minimum, three of the Scotia Speedworld ACE Lumbermart Thunder car drivers from the Halifax area have already committed to making the long haul, including the last two champions of the division. Billed as “the BEST Four Cylinder Drivers in Atlantic Canada,” the Speedworld contingent is led by 2013 champion Matthew Warren of White’s Lake, Nova Scotia, who edged out Dave Matthews for the title by six points at 3/10-mile oval. Warren will have 2012 champion Kyle MacMillan of Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia and J.R. Lawson of Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia joining him in trying to take away the final major Mini Stock race of the season in Atlantic Canada.
Eugene Weagle and Brady Taylor have also been rumored to be making the trip. The two are regulars at Petty International Raceway throughout the summer and will look to take the title away from Speedway Miramichi regulars such as Girouard, Blakely, Flieger, O’Neill, Desroches and many more. If you have a Four Cylinder and have the itch to race, bring it to Miramichi on Saturday, or you’ll have to wait til May to scratch said itch.
The Street Stocks have also been added to the card and are sure to put on a great show, as they did in September as the undercard for the Coors Light 125. We don’t have an expected entry list as of now, but rest assured the guys and girls will be going hard in their final race of the season.
RODD MIRAMICHI “SPEEDWAY RATE”
The Rodd Miramichi River has a Speedway rate for those coming to the MONSTER Eliminator Enduro on Saturday. Just quote the “Speedway Rate” when you book and you’ll get the special at $99. I can tell you from previous experience that the Rodd Miramichi River is an incredible hotel with an amazing view of the Miramichi River. The Anglers Reel Restaurant has delicious food – oh, and did I mention the bed was the comfiest I’ve slept in on the road all season?!
