McKay Announces PST Intentions for 2014

One of the quickest stocks in Atlantic Canadian racing continues to rise.

Sarah McKay Racing has officially announced via their website that McKay has intentions of competing on the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour full time in the 2014 season. If the plans follow through, she will become the first female driver to compete on the Tour since its inception in 2001 and is one of currently two rookies expected to vie for the Exide Batteries Rookie of the Year Award on the series alongside Winsloe, Prince Edward Island’s Brodie MacQuarrie.

McKay made her first Pro Stock start during the Atlantic Championships at the CENTRE For Speed on October 5th after nine late model Sportsman starts throughout New Brunswick, including a season high third place at the Coors Light 125 at Speedway Miramichi. McKay started 18th in her Pro Stock debut at the Grand Barachois oval and was up to seventh with 35 laps in the books before a wreck swept up the #19 car.

The Quispamsis, New Brunswick teen will become the fifth driver under the age of 20 to make a full time foray into the Pro Stock Tour in the last three years, joining Brad Eddy, Cole Butcher, Denver Foran and 2013 Exide Batteries Rookie of the Year Dylan Blenkhorn in the “youth movement” in the series.

The Exide Batteries Rookie of the Year champions crop is a talented field, which includes two-time Tour titlist Shawn Turple, current Atlantic CAT 250 champion Craig Slaunwhite and multi-time Auto Value 250 winner, and McKay’s mentor, Lonnie Sommerville.
