14th Annual MetalCORE Atlantic Stock Car Championships this Weekend
October 3rd – Registrations continue to roll in for this weekends Champioships here at the CENTRE. Among the notables are fellow track owner competitor Jason Carnahan out of the Mighty Miramichi and Josh Collins of Newfoundland who have both thrown their hats into the Pro Stock ring! Several drivers are still on the fence and word, as of tonight, is that Bobby White may not make it due to mechanical problems with no race related equipment but we continue to keep our fingers crossed. Looking like a great field in all divisions nonetheless so we’ll see you at the CENTRE!

The excitement surrounding the Atlantic Championships is building and we haven’t even talked about day 2 yet! What about the Street Stocks in 100 laps of all out ACTION, certainly not to be missed if you love good racing and the “Little Guys” or Mini Stock 100? Another great race full of thrills and sideways swerving pedal to the metal door to door three (and even four) wide racing! It doesn’t get much better than that! Its all out racing cause no ones got anything to loose and everyone wants that title (in all the divisions) of Atlantic Champion! All tracks and all provinces are represented from Newfoundland on in. It really IS a special event. LETS CELEBRATE IT!
October 2nd – Well, in case you haven’t read the news on Tims Corner.ca Sarah McKay will be at the speedway this Saturday debuting in a Pro Stock. The team plans to practice tomorrow at the speedway and again on Friday to get Sarah “in the groove” and familiar with the PS riggin and then on Saturday she’ll make some history as the first woman ever to compete in the Atlantic Championships of Stock Car Racing in a Pro Stock! Way to go Sarah, we need a few more women in this great sport and I for one am looking forward to seeing “you go Girl” Its another great story of someone getting a start in a new division at the Atlantic Championships! Another young driver (from PEI) named Robbie MacEwen will also get a start on his PS career here this weekend. Hum, speaking of someone getting a start at the Championships, what about a REstart? Yup, here’s another exciting story, or maybe even two! MASCAR fans will remember a young man from Kennetcook named Bobby White, I do believe. Yes, a prolific winner and top competitor back in the day… Well, you’ve probably guessed it by now, yes, Bobby is registered to rekindle his Late Model racing career at the Championships this weekend! That should be a little added something, for sure and well worth the price of admission in itself! Not enough excitement for you? Well, this ones not a “for certain” by any stretch, but CFS is working with sponsors and friends to try to get Sandy Livingston, Jr back in a Pro Stock ride for this weekend. Sandy has been inching his way closer to getting his own car back on the track and had expected to be in Shediac in the #39 until some bad luck and a death in the family derailed his efforts a couple of weeks ago. Tonight were still hopeful that Sandy will restart is career too at this years Championships. Sandy would bring the field of registered drivers to 20 and a strong field it is. In order of registration: Halpin, Pierce, Smith, Moore, Gahan, Hicken, Sommerville (defending champ), McKay, Koskulics, Harvey, White, McKinnon, Miller, Hamm, Gosbee, Dougay, MacEwen, Rankin, Kyle, Livingston. That’s it so far with several still on the fence depending on weather like Greg Proud who hopes to have is crop in baring bar weather so he can head over on Saturday. So, we pray for good weather, as always and a growing field of competitors!! See you at the CENTRE for “Racings Year End Celebration” this weekend.
Sept 30th – Well “Racings Year End Celebration” aka “The Atlantic Stock Car Championships” are starting to take shape! Leading the charge is a fine field of “Heavy Hitters” in the Pro Stock ranks with a total of 19 registered and several more who are interested but can not yet commit to attend. There are some exciting names we haven’t seen race in a Pro Stock in a while too. We’re talking guys who were top runners that haven’t been in the seat in awhile and are itchin to get back at it. There might just be a bit of Maritime race history made too but more on that in a later post this week. Plus Lonnie Sommerville has announced he will defend his 2012 Crowning! Its looking some great racing!! We’ll see you at the CENTRE this weekend ….oh, and lets CELEBRATE! More sneek previews to follow!!
Sept 26th – A question was asked if the Street Stock 100 would stop at half way for fuel? The answer is: Yes, the Street Stock 100 will be stopping at lap 50 to allow cars to add fuel. One crew member will be allowed to enter the track and fuel the car for those who need it. Thanks to OBS for allow us to post!
Sept 26th – Several Scotia and OBS drivers have asked the question about the 4 cyl races in Shediac. To clarify, each of the 4 cylinder classes run a separate feature. 100 for the “Honda Class” and 50 for the North American makes. Also some have asked if the NA makes can run with the “Hondas”. The answer is a conditional “Yes”. The condition being that there are positions in the 30 car field that are unfilled come feature time. In that instance we will allow the top finishing NA makes from your feature (which will run before the 100) to fill the vacant positions to a max of 30 cars in the 100. To give some time to prepare there will be another class race between the 2 4 cyl features.
Sept 25th – We promised more Championships improvements so here’s a few more we’ve made to date: After last years positive feedback we’ve added a few more on track and Tech staff to help ensure the event continues to run smoothly. In the interests of greater Safety First we added trained Paramedics and Firemen with full emergency first aid equipment and full extraction and fire fighting gear. For the fans we’ve added 2 more First Aid locations located at each of the Canteens – just in case theres a scrape or burn thats needs attention. and we’ve upgraded our sound system (in addition to our new FM broadcasting capability) so fans can hear the tower a little better during the event. We’re working on some more stuff taht we’ll announce soon so please bear with us! We’ll hope to see you at the Championships!!
Sept 21st – We promised more improvement to follow so here’s the next BIG one for fans and drivers as of today the Championships purse increased to over $50,000! Now $9000 for Sportsman including bonus’ for heat winners, non qualifiers (tow) and other incentive to increase the excitement on race day!! WHOOT WHOOT. Let’s CELEBRATE!
