Petty To Crown Champions Saturday (Format Included)

Track Release/Photo by McCarthy Photographic

RIVER GLADE, NB (September 19, 2013) –  This Saturday will see four different champions crowned at Petty International Raceway as the facility sees it last stock car racing action of the 2013 season. The Petty house division titles are all up for grabs so every position will count as racers battle for every point they can get toward their overall standings.

The same can be expected the AOW Tour and Eastern Mini Cup Series competitors who are also on the card and, while not in their last races of the season, are winding down toward their respective season finales.

The GT Enterprises Sportsman 100 is the feature race for the show and as such offers 100 laps of fender to fender action where sportsman drivers will decide their season champion. Points leader Russell Smith Jr. has a 28-marker lead over Chris Reid and Shawn MacLean who are tied for the second spot. Smith’s lead, while strong, is not insurmountable, especially given the extended length feature and the strong car count expected to enter one of the last sportsman races of this season in the Maritimes.

The C Max Paint and Body Shop Supplies Street Stock division sees a tight battle with just 27 points separating the top five drivers led by Alexandra O’Blenis as she looks to become the first female division champion at Petty and to add the family collection of titles (she is the daughter of multi-time champion Dave O’Blenis). She holds a slim three-point advantage over Martin Landry who is just one marker ahead of Marshall Berry and Geoff Tugwell who are tied for third. Gary Wade sits a little further back in fifth.

In the Mister Transmission Mini Stock there are three drivers locked in a fierce battle for the title. Just three points separate the top three with Brad Daley on top, Ryan Knowles second, and Mike Phillips third – each just one behind the other.

The Leisure Days RV Bandoleros division sees six drivers in a 20-point spread chase for the title led by Cole Tanner, just five ahead of Adam Meehan who has a 10-point lead over Cory Hall. Fourth place is tied between Braden Langille and Ryan Messer – both just three behind Hall, and sixth-place Craig MacDonald is just two points behind them.

All tolled just 78 points separate these 17 drivers – all heading for Petty Saturday in hopes of bringing home a championship.

Racing gets underway at 4 p.m. Saturday with pit gates opening at 10 a.m. and grandstand gates opening at 1 p.m. Grandstand tickets are just $20 for adults, $10 for youth (8-18), and children seven and under will be admitted free (when accompanied by an adult). Pit admission is $25 and restricted to those 18 and older.

On October 12 & 13 Petty International Raceway, together with Dave O’Blenis, will host its first ever Flea Market Extravaganza. Vendor setup is Saturday October 12 between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. The gates will be open to the public from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Admission is just $5.00. For more information please call Dave O’Blenis at 506.864.4193.
