Note from Scotia Speedworld’s official Facebook page: For those of you wondering, yes the WRS season finale will be rescheduled if we get rained out Friday. When has not yet been determined…stay tuned!
(Halifax, NS. September 11, 2013) Scotia Speedworld will close its 26th season this weekend with two days of championship racing! Friday night at 7:00 PM the Weekly Racing Series will crown champions in four divisions – the Coors Light Trucks, ACE Lumbermart Thunder & Lightning and the Strictly Hydraulics Legends. Saturday at 4:00 PM the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour returns to Scotia Speedworld for their season finale, the Dartmouth Dodge 200 – which will determine who walks away with the prestigious series title and the $10,000.00 championship cheque! The Dartmouth Dodge Sportsman and Hydraulics Plus Bandolero’s will also decide their champions on Saturday prior to the Dartmouth Dodge 200.
Championship racing gets underway in style Friday night with the Coors Light Trucks. With just 12 points separating the top three in standings the championship will come down to the final 20 laps of the season. Defending champion Dan Smith (Lower Sackville, NS) has a mere three point advantage over Ryan Goldsmith (Bridgewater, NS) and just 12 markers on Jason Fenton (Eastern Passage, NS). With the championship still up for grabs Friday night’s feature is sure to be the most exciting Truck race of the season.
The Strictly Hydraulics Legends Championship will also come down to on-track performance as current champion Cole Butcher (Porter’s Lake) has a not-too-comfortable 22 point lead over Cy Harvey (Elmsdale, NS) and 32 points on Danny Harvey (Lantz, NS) heading into Finale Friday.
The ACE Lumbermart Lightning division will have a new champion in 2013 and it’s down to just three drivers. BJ Nicholson (Beaverbank, NS) currently sits on top of the standing but has two drivers hot on his heels. Marc MacMillan (Glenholme, NS) enters the season finale five points back and Chevy MacDonald (Stewiacke, NS) is also still in the hunt with just 22 markers separating he and Nicholson.
Matthew Warren (White’s Lake, NS) enters the ACE Lumbermart Thunder finale with a slight point advantage over his closest competitor. Warren may have the edge but will have to perform in order to stay ahead of Dave Matthews (Kennetcook, NS) who sits just 15 markers behind Warren. The same two competitors battled down to the title in 2011 with Matthews edging Warren for his first track championship by a single point.
The Dartmouth Dodge Sportsman will take centre stage Saturday to determine their champion in a 50-lap feature prior to the Dartmouth Dodge 200. Darren Wallage (Oakfield, NS) enters the race with a 25 point lead over reigning Sportsman champion Aaron Boutilier (Porter’s Lake, NS).
The Hydraulics Plus Bandolero cars will also decide their champion on Saturday afternoon. Adam Meehan (Rawdon, NS) enters the final race of the season with a 30 point spread over Braden Langille (Shubenacadie, NS).
Three-time series champion John Flemming (Halifax, NS) enters the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour Season Finale Dartmouth Dodge 200 with a 49 point lead over fellow three-time series champ Shawn Tucker (Fredericton, NB). Tucker has been dominating the second half of the season but even if he is able to pull off his fifth win of the season and take the Linde Most Lap Led Award, it would give him the maximum 210 points, meaning Flemming will still only need to finish 19th or better in order to take home his fourth title.
Don’t miss any of the action as Scotia Speedworld’s season comes to a close this weekend – and seven champions emerge!
