PASS Announces 2013 Northwest Expansion
WENATCHEE, WA (October 27) – Pro All Stars Series (PASS) President Tom Mayberry and Wenatchee Valley Super Oval (WVSO) Promoter Garrett Evans announced Saturday that PASS and WVSO will co-sanction the PASS Northwest Triple Crown in 2013. The announcement was made Saturday night at WVSO’s annual season ending awards banquet. The PASS Northwest Triple Crown will fill the void for West Coast Super Late Model drivers who have been looking for some time to compete under an organized set of rules and procedures. With this move, the PASS Northwest Series joins PASS North and PASS South in uniting short track racers across the country under one sanctioning body with universally beneficial rules.
“The Northwest has provided us with some of the toughest drivers around and we’re looking forward to the opportunity of racing at Wenatchee next year and for years to come,” said PASS President Tom Mayberry at the WVSO Awards Banquet. “Garrett Evans is a legendary racer in his own right and I’m excited to work with him in promoting PASS Northwest. We think next year will be very successful and look to forward to further expansion for PASS Northwest in 2014.”
Garrett Evans is a well known name in short track racing circles with four championships and the all-time wins lead in the old Northwest Tour that sanctioned races until 2006. Evans quickly became a fan of the PASS formula for Super Late Model racing after competing in “The Race” at North Wilkesboro Speedway in 2011 and in this year’s revitalized All American 400 at Nashville. He has faith that Tom Mayberry and PASS can resurrect Super Late Model racing in the Northwest much as they did for Southeastern racers with the creation of PASS South in 2006.
“I’m happy that we’ve been able to make this happen and so are a lot of the other competitors that I’ve talked to,” said Evans. “It’s been 6 years since we’ve had any sort of sanctioning body out our way and we’ve been in dire need of organization and experience and that’s what PASS offers. Last year at North Wilkesboro Tom [Mayberry} and I started talking about this, but I never dream it could really happen. I’ve been really excited since we started working on the deal and I can’t wait for next year.”
Each race of the PASS Northwest Triple Crown will be contested at Wenatchee Valley Super Oval along with a full complement of support divisions. The Apple Blossom 200 will serve as the Inaugural PASS Northwest race and will take the green flag on April 27, 2013. Joining the PASS Northwest Super Late Models in April will be the WESCO Sprints, Pro Four Alliance and Pure Stocks. On June 15, 2013, the PASS Northwest Series will compete in the Columbia River 150. They will be joined by another exciting undercard of racing which will include the WESCO Sprints, Pro Four Alliance, Can-Am Thunder Cars, and Pure Stocks. There will be rotating practice sessions each Friday for the first two rounds of the triple crown. Teams will have additional practices, plus qualifying and main events on Saturday of each race weekend. The top 20 qualifiers will be locked in based on their qualifying times. However, the top 10 qualifiers will redraw for their starting positions inside the top 10. The remainder of the field will be set by last chance race(s) and PASS provisionals.
The final round of PASS Northwest Triple Crown will award a substantial bonus purse to any driver who commits and attempts to qualify for all three races. The Wenatchee Valley 300 will be the marquee event of the PASS Northwest Triple Crown and will take place on August 9-10, 2013. Qualifying and heat races for the PASS Northwest Super Late Models will go green on Friday, August 9th along with feature racing for Pure Stocks, Legends, and Bump To Pass. On Saturday, August 10th, fans can see the PASS Northwest Last Chance Race, followed by features for the Pro Four Alliance, Legends, WESCO Sprints, and the Wenatchee Valley 300. Advance discount ticket packages will be available at Leonard Evans Cars or by calling 509-663-8551.
