Street Stock Super Series on Deck Saturday for OBS

With half a season completed at Oyster Bed Speedway points races are beginning to heat up, none more than the Street Stock division. In the highly competitive division only thirty-nine points separate the top seven cars. The division will also be in the spotlight Saturday night as they will be running their second round the Super Series fifty-lap feature. Defending Champion Nick Chaisson started the season strong but has struggled as of late. Over the last three race dates the defending champ has only scored one top three finish and has saw his points lead slip away to the hard charging Mark Leclair.
Also the division leader in wins, Leclair was finally able to overtake the lead back from Chaisson after relinquishing it to him more than a month ago. Leclair has been steady all season scoring wins on every card except for two in early June. He had fallen back as far as seventh in the chase for points but has rebounded over the last three weekends scoring three wins adding four top three finishes in his last eight starts. His worst finish in those starts, fourth. Leclair currently holds a five point lead over Stephen Gass and a seven point lead over Chaisson.
Stephen Gass has held onto a top three position in points over the last five weekends of racing. The usually aggressive driver seems to be taking a different approach this season, relying more on consistent finishes and so far it seems to be paying off for the veteran driver. So far Gass has grabbed one heat win and one feature but has many top three finishes.
One driver who has always been conservative is Colton Ford. The youngster whose car was built almost a decade before he was born has really come into his own this season in the division. In his fifth season at the speedway his patience seems to be paying dividends with great finishes. Despite only scoring one heat win this season Ford finds himself only eleven points out of the lead.
Matt Boyle into his sophomore season at the Speedway has shown some great driving skills amongst a mostly veteran clad division. He put on a show back on June fifteenth by completing the sweep on the night for a triple win. He got as high as second in the points a few weeks back but has run into some mechanical troubles as of late put he is still in contention only 16 points out of the lead.
All of this should make for a very interesting night at the Speedway. Alongside the Street Stock Fifty Lap Super Series Feature the night’s card will include Mini, Outlaw, and Modified divisions. Also for the first time ever on PEI fans will be able to see the Eastern Mini Cup Series. A Maritime Racing Division that are the equivalent of Nascar Cup cars only half the size. Racing gets underway at seven p.m.
