Harvey Goes Two-For-Two on Maritime Legends Tour

Elmsdale’s Cy Harvey went to victory lane for the second consecutive race in the Maritime League of Legends Tour by capturing the Maritime Legends Challenge Friday at Riverside International Speedway. Harvey, who won his heat race and started on the pole for the 50-lap feature, had to hold off one of the closest fields the Tour has seen in years at the James River track. Darren Sherwood (Berry Mills, NB) was determined to get past “the Legend” but had to settle for second, ahead of point leader Justin MacNeill (Bedford). Dylan Blenkhorn (Truro), driving Sean Kirk’s #34 car and Cole Butcher (Porter’s Lake), two former champions of the series, raced to fourth and fifth at the end of the feature, respectively.

The top eight drivers ran nose-to-tail in the closing laps of the event, putting on a showcase of Legends racing that hasn’t been seen in years at Riverside. Visiting driver Adam Gilbert from Leduc, Alberta was involved in an early wreck that relegated him to 16th in the running order at the end of the night. Danny Harvey (Lantz) and Paul Goulden (Shelburne) were involved in a scary wreck in the heat race which saw Goulden’s #57 car get airborne in Turn One before coming down on all four wheels after impact with the wall. Both drivers were okay but were unable to get their cars repaired for the feature race.

Cy Harvey and rookie Jarrett Butcher (Porter’s Lake) each took qualifying heat race victories. Butcher was the top rookie in the field with his ninth place finish.

The next event for the Maritime League of Legends Tour will take place on Saturday, August 10th at Scotia Speedworld, as a part of the Atlantic CAT 250 weekend. This will serve as Round Four of Seven on the popular touring series and the second of two trips to the 3/10-mile oval located outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Tickets are on sale in advance at TicketAtlantic.com or can be purchased at the gate on race day. For more information, visit ScotiaSpeedworld.ca.
