Harvey Holds on for Atlantic Tiltload 50 Win at Petty

After 50 exciting laps of racing on the high banked bullring of Petty International Raceway in River Glade, New Brunswick, it was “The Legend” Cy Harvey of Elmsdale, Nova Scotia standing as the winner of the Atlantic Tiltload 50. In the late stages of the race, it was Harvey and his #37 Harvey Racing ride and Scotia Speedworld Round One winner Justin MacNeiill (Bedford, NS) battling it out for the victory but they were joined by a hard charging Darren Sherwood (Berry Mills, NB) at the end of the race. The margin of victory was just two tenths of a second.
Sherwood and Jeff Cruickshank (Hantsport, NS) dominated most of the Atlantic Tiltload 50 before contact between the two as they battled for the lead sent both drivers to the rear in the second half of the event. Sherwood worked hard to get back to the front, making a majority of his passes on the outside line to get back to third when the checkers flew.
Jarrett Butcher (Porter’s Lake, NS) made his first start of the season and would come home in fourth after running many laps within the top three, while series veteran Scott Cunning (Halifax, NS) completed the top five.
Butcher was the top rookie in the race, as he finished in the fourth place spot. Harry Breimer Jr. (Stewiacke, NS) finished in 12th place on the afternoon while Graeme Bishop (Moncton, NB) brought his car home in 14th. A pair of 10-lap qualifying heat races set the tone for the Atlantic Tiltload 50, which were won by Sherwood and Mark Williams (Windsor Junction, NS).
The Atlantic Tiltload 50 at Petty International Raceway was the first of two Atlantic Tiltload sponsored races on the season. The second event will take place on August 24th during River Glade International Weekend, with the top driver in the combined standings from the races receiving the “Atlantic Tiltload Challenge” trophy.
