Raeburn Sweeps Spud (AOW)
Series Release/Photo Credit: Lynn Martin
It started off as a beautiful afternoon of racing at Spud Speedway, but not before Mother Nature paid a quick visit. A short rain shower came through the area before the racing program started, but it didn’t damper the event.
Two sets of Heats were run for each division, including the AOW Modified Tour. In the 1st heat, Mike “Sparky” Raeburn of Hampton took the checkers over Joe Hoyt. In the 2nd heat, it was Raeburn once again who took the checkers over Joe Hoyt. This would set up quite a battle for the “Spud 35” later on in the afternoon.
When it finally came feature time, it was Raeburn and newcomer Cody Price who would line up on the front row. It would only be 4 laps before the first caution flew. Doug Matchett made contact with Speedway Miramichi race winner “Lightning” Larry Gulliver and broke an axle ending his day. Gulliver would pull to the pits some time later with a bent spindle.
2011 champion Joe Hoyt & Raeburn battled bumper to bumper putting on a thrilling show. In the end, Raeburn managed to hold on to claim the victory over Hoyt. Meanwhile, Robert Miner was in a battle with Cody Price and managed to take the final podium position.
