Vandaalen Victory – Blu and Cal Sweep Spec Miata Championship Rounds at AMP

The father/son combination of Blu and Cal Vandaalen had plenty to celebrate on Sunday at Atlantic Motorsports Park as the two took home all three rounds of the Toyo Tires Spec Miata Championship contested on June 23rd.

Blu Vandaalen took home the first two races of the afternoon while his son Cal took home the third of the afternoon, which were Rounds Four, Five and Six respectively on the 2013 schedule for the series. Blu’s win in the second feature came after a bit of contact between the two cars sent Cal around in Turn Four at the Shubenacadie road course. While Blu was on the back bumper of Cal at the finish of race three, he could not make his way around the #31 after a couple of looks at a pass in the closing two laps.

Defending series champion Bruce McNutt of Lantz put forth a solid effort with three podium runs, including a third place run in the final race after an off in Turn Nine. Scott Giannou of St. John’s, NL had a solid day which included three top five finishes. Like McNutt, Giannou also had an off in the third race with his taking place on the opposite end of the track.

Truro’s Kevin Sibley had a short day in his Simply Automotive/Shine Factory Truro Miata following an off in Turn Four in qualifying ended with heavy damage to the #03 car.
