(May 7th, 2025) – The wait is over. More than 260 days have elapsed since race fans packed the stands at Speedway 660 to witness a historic championship battle that was settled in a tiebreaker during the 2024 ReCar 150. Now, winter has passed, and the sound of Super Late Model engines roaring to life is set to awaken a new season for stock car racing in Atlantic Canada.
A new year always brings plenty of excitement doused with uncertainty and anticipation. That uncertainty and anticipation may be significantly higher for 2025 with plenty of new faces, new twists, new opportunities, and the promise of yet another unforgettable season of action.
It all begins this weekend at Speedway 660 with the Riverview Ford Lincoln 150 as part of the Riverview Ford Season Opener. SUPER SIX Super Late Model Series Storylines
Get Ready For a Wide Open Championship Battle
The top has been blown off the chase for the championship in 2025.
With the top three in points from one year ago scaling back and refocusing their efforts, the championship has become wide open to steal, and several top-tier drivers are ready to contend.
Ashton Tucker and Cory Hall redefined what it took to win a championship one season ago, with Tucker capturing it in a tiebreaker and Hall settling for the runner-up spot despite not finishing worse than second all season in what can only be described as a cruel twist of fate. Knocking on the door of the title hunt the last two years was Robbie MacEwen, who knocked off finishes of second and third in final standings, respectively.
With these three contenders only joining the Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series part-time, the rest of the field is ready to pounce in an attempt to capitalize and earn their own year-long crown. The field of full-time competitors is strong and packed with high-quality talent, and you simply cannot pick a championship favorite at this point. This is sure to make every race intriguing, bringing us incredible storylines to watch all season long.
Messer and Gosbee Hoping To Rekindle 2023 Magic With New Cars
Only two full-time registered drivers have notched a feature win in Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series competition. They are Ryan Messer (#1) and Dylan Gosbee (#16) – and both will be debuting brand new cars at the Riverview Ford Season Opener.
Messer hopes to spark the magic that propelled him to the historic win in the inaugural race on Mother’s Day weekend at Speedway 660 two years ago. A hotly contested race that day, Messer outdueled one of the strongest fields in recent memory in the closing laps to earn the monumental win. Messer has not been to victory lane since, despite earning many podiums and consistently posting top-five and top 10 finishes. Messer was fourth in points the last two seasons – with a new Waterfront Pub & Eatery-sponsored CRF chassis ready to take to the track, he will aim to cement himself as a favorite not just for the win on Saturday, but the championship too.
For Dylan Gosbee and KLR Motorsports, they solidified themselves once again as top contenders by finishing a strong top 10 in points in 2024. But coming off his championship in the inaugural Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series season, three DNF’s proved detrimental to the title defense. Not ready to back down from adversity, the NAV Canada team wanted more. Thus, over the offseason, they acquired a brand new Fury chassis – a move they hope will elevate their driver and team even higher. Gosbee is a former winner in Speedway 660 weekly Pro Stock competition and is the only full-time driver with a feature win at all three of the series’ tracks.
A new car always brings a degree of uncertainty – think back to when Gosbee debuted a new car in the 2023 championship race, which saw a mechanical failure as he took the checkers. With much potential – but also a degree of uncertainty – surrounding their new rides, fans will be on the edge of their seat watching Gosbee and Messer this weekend, and all season long.
Hudson Weston Cannot Be Overlooked
Momentum is everything in racing, and perhaps no driver is entering 2025 with more momentum from last season than young Hudson Weston (#43). While fireworks exploded with the crowning of a new series champion, the Bayview Kenworth #43 piloted by Weston was parked on the frontstretch as a podium finisher for the first time.
The 2023 Rookie of the Year continues to up his game each and every race, proven by his result in the 2024 ReCar 150. With his first podium out of the way, the focus now becomes a first career win, maybe even a championship. With so much uncertainty as to how the 2025 championship will play out, the stars may be set to align for a young driver to emerge into superstar status. The keys to season-long success are consistency and limiting mistakes, but starting the season strong is vital with only six races ahead. Can Weston pick up where he left off and throw his name to the top of the standings in 2025?
Veteran Stars Seeking Cherry On Top of Stellar Career
A regional series championship in the Super Late Model ranks is regarded as a significant achievement for any driver. With the dominant forces from a year ago not in the picture, attention turns to a mix of veteran stars, with the question being – is this the year they finally conquer a major regional series championship?
From track championships to marquee event wins, the accomplishments of these drivers are many. Think of seven-time Speedway 660 Pro Stock champion, two-time Yard Gear 250 winner and new Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame inductee Dave O’Blenis (#48) with over 105 career feature wins. He has championships at at least four tracks, and has won just about everything there is to win – but there are two missing spaces on his resume – an Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series win and championship.
Likewise, Lonnie Sommerville (#23) has found career success across Atlantic Canada and beyond its borders. Another multi-time Yard Gear 250 victor and former Speedway 660 track champion, 2025 may be shaping up to be his best chance yet. The Pub’s Drive Thru Bottle Exchange #23 has shown an ability to be consistent – Sommerville just needs luck to go his way in all six races in 2025.
Greg Fahey (#20) and the AEH Motorsports team might be the hungriest. During the first trip to Speedway 660 one year ago, Fahey controlled much of the race only to fade with a soft tire in the closing laps. Not to mention, the A.E. Horne & Sons #20 experienced a heartbreaking loss in the Yard Gear 250 last September – he looks to drive into victory lane in a regional series for the first time since 2017.
Could this be the year for veteran drivers from historic racing families such as Chris Duncan (#97) or Kent Vincent (#8)? Duncan and the Easy-Kleen Pressure Systems #97 saw a surge in performance in 2024 on the heels of purchasing a new car, and big things are certainly on the horizon for 2025. Vincent has been a staple in the Maritimes for decades, but has yet to conquer a regional championship. Also in the mix will be Kevin Moore (#88) – Moore came close yet again to a Speedway 660 championship last year, finishing runner-up for the fifth time. Will he finally get his elusive championship in the form of an Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series title?
Healthy Field of New Faces Ready To Shake Things Up
It’s always great to see new faces stepping up to compete – whether full-time or part-time, we will have several on track.
One of this weekend’s big storylines will be Caden Tufts (#44) making his Super Late Model debut. Tufts recently announced he was signed to make his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut this August at Richmond Raceway, but first, he will turn laps with the Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series. Needless to say, Tufts has already made plenty of headlines in 2025, but will make more in his Timberlea Beverage Room #44 this weekend.
Tufts will be joined by fellow Legends standout Tanton Wooldridge (#01). Driving the Kris Fournier Re/Max #01 ride, Wooldridge is considered one of the top young prospects from PEI and will compete full-time for a championship in 2025. He is no stranger to the series, having made four starts over the last few years, highlighted by a top 10 finish last August at Oyster Bed Speedway.
Brandon Albert (#37) has been building hype for his rookie season after purchasing the former Kenny Snow / Robbie MacLean car. Albert has found plenty of success at Oyster Bed Speedway – including the Street Stock championship from a year ago – and will be a welcome addition to the series.
Ontario native turned New Brunswicker Ed Bowlby (#15) has signalled his intent to compete full-time in 2025 as well. Bowlby has plenty of experience in Ontario and has been making a name for himself in Atlantic Canada, with his sights now set on full-time Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series competition next!
Can the Prince Edward Island Winless Drought End?
How long has it been since a Prince Edward Island driver earned a victory on the Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series? You have to go back to Dylan Gosbee’s triumph in the Universal Truck and Trailer 150 on August 6th, 2023 at Oyster Bed Speedway – needless to say, it’s been a minute, and the PEI contingent is hungry and motivated.
After winning a championship for the first time in decades in 2023, PEI drivers were held winless in 2024, but it didn’t come without some close calls on many occasions. Five (5) drivers from PEI will roll into the Geary Woods looking to change the narrative and spoil the mainland party. Gosbee, of course, leads the way, joined by veteran Kent Vincent, who looks for his first regional touring series win in 10 years. Vincent had an impressive start to 2024 in his return to full-time competition – even earning an EIT Race Radio Pole Award at Speedway 660 – and hopes to regain that early momentum this year.
A trio of rising stars from PEI will round out the field of drivers. Third-year driver Brodie Lewis (#22) is coming off a career-best finish during the most recent stop at Speedway 660 and will be digging for more this weekend, including a potential first career top 10 finish. Tanton Wooldridge (#01) will make his first Speedway 660 start in a Super Late Model this weekend. While he has previous starts at other tracks, Brandon Albert (#37) will be making his first start of any kind in a Super Late Model.
Bonus – Don’t Count Out Speedway 660 Regulars
Every trip to Speedway 660 always sees some local drivers enter to add an interesting dynamic to the field. The Riverview Ford Lincoln 150 will be no different, with reigning track champion Ian Rasmussen (#81) leading the way. Rasmussen followed in his father’s footsteps by earning his first championship last fall in the Big Black Dodge after a strong year that also saw him pick up a feature win. Rasmussen bested Kevin Moore (#88) for that championship.
Andrew Rodgers (#14) will also join the field after posting consecutive podium finishes to end the year in weekly competition. Rodgers is a former EIT Race Radios Pole Award winner, which came as part of an impressive showing during the 2023 edition of the ReCar 150. After not competing with the Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series in 2024, fans will be ecstatic to welcome the R.A. Lawrence Engineering #14 back on track.
Cal Hatfield (#11) is slated to make his second career start with the Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series. Hatfield returned to racing last year at the ReCar 150 after a few years’ hiatus, and is locked and loaded on making his mark on the field on Saturday.
