(SYDNEY, NS – July 19th, 2023) – The management of Bud’s Speedway in Sydney, Nova Scotia is excited to announce an increased purse for the Saturday, August 5th Late Model Sportsman event. The Late Model Sportsman Classic will now pay a total purse of $20,000, based on a 20 car field, with a minimum of $5,000 to win. Teams who haul to the Grand Lake Road oval from over 150 kilometers, one way, will receive a minimum of $500 to start the race. A full format for the event, including lap length, full purse breakdown, ticket information and more, is expected to be unveiled next week.
“We want to grow this event and give the Sportsman division a stage to showcase their talents in Sydney,” said Lynden MacDougall, co-owner of Bud’s Speedway. “With the increased purse, we hope to see drivers and teams from across Atlantic Canada come to Cape Breton Island to experience our track!”
The announcement comes following the Maritime All Stars Series pulling their support of the event. The Series was to promote the event but cited “conflict within their team” as the reason for canceling their involvement in the race in a social media post on Tuesday.
This increased purse would not be possible without the help, contributions and support of several marketing partners, including Robby’s Towing and more to be announced in the coming days. If you would like to join the family of marketing partners on this, or any event at Bud’s Speedway, please contact the track through their Facebook page (@BudsSpeedway), email at admin@budsspeedway.com or (902) 578-9526.
