Excitement Building At Oxford As 40th Annual TD Bank 250 Nears
NAPLES, ME (June 1) – With less than two months to go before activities commence at Maine’s Oxford Plains Speedway for the 40th Annual TD Bank 250, Super Late Model entries continue to come in from across the country. Nearly 40 Pro All Stars Series (PASS) competitors have filed an entry for the biggest single-day motorsports event in the world set to take the green flag on Sunday, July 21. This year’s TD Bank 250 at Oxford Plains is a PASS National Series race and will pay $25,000 to the race winner, with an additional $25,000 up for grabs in guaranteed lap money.
One of the biggest reasons for all the excitement surrounding the TD Bank 250 is the long overdue return of the PASS Super Late Models to the storied race. For many years, the TD Bank 250 featured North America’s best racers competing in high-horsepowered race cars on one of the country’s toughest short tracks, the Oxford Plains Speedway. With the return of the PASS Super Late Models to the TD Bank 250, that tough, gritty legacy that once surrounded the storied event also returns.
Among the recent entries to this year’s TD Bank 250 are three-time winner Mike Rowe, who joins his son Ben as an early favorite to take the checkered flag. Some of the best from the PASS North Super Late Model ranks have also filed entries recently including 2012 champion Travis Benjamin, as well as Trevor Sanborn, Curtis Gerry, Reid Lanpher, Aaron Ricker, and Alan Tardiff. New Hampshire’s DJ Shaw has proven to be one of the top PASS North racers in recent years and will be joined by fellow Granite State driver Bryan Kruczek. Vermont’s Steve Legendre returns after several years competing in the PASS South Super Late Model division as well as Tarheel State up-and-comer Tate Fogleman, who will join his dad Jay as first time competitors in the TD Bank 250. Austin Theriault captured the final PASS North checkered flag at Oxford last year and will try to represent his home state of Maine proudly in the 250 along with Tom Ricker, David Oliver, Kirk Thibeau, and Michael Landry. In addition to showcasing the best of the United States, the TD Bank 250 at Oxford has seen its fair share of talented Canadians through the years and this year will be no different. Quebec’s Martin Latulippe joins a healthy group who hope to take the trophy back “North Of The Border.”
But the PASS Super Late Models will not be alone in making the 40th Annual TD Bank 250 a celebration of short track racing. A great slate of divisions is set to race starting on Friday, July 19 with the PASS Sportsman, Outlaw Sportsman, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Outlaws, Rebels, Trucks, and Ladies. The PASS Super Late Models will get their first laps on the track on Saturday, July 20 with two rounds of practice in the morning, followed by racing in the evening for the PASS Modifieds, Valenti Modifieds, Outlaw Sportsman, Legends, Mini Stocks, and Street Stocks. On Sunday, July 21, gates will open bright and early at 6:30 AM with a full day of on track activities including practice and heat race action for the PASS Super Late Models, followed by features for the PASS Modifieds, Outlaw Sportsman, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, and finally the 40th Annual TD Bank 250.
