ATLANTIC MODIFIED TOUR RETURNS TO RIVER GLADE FOR ROUND FIVE SATURDAY

Series Release/Photo by Tanya Everett

(MIRAMICHI, NB – July 29th, 2022) – The Atlantic Modified Tour returns to action this Saturday night as the popular New Brunswick based touring series contests Round Five of their 2022 season. The 35-lap feature at Petty International Raceway is the second of four stops to the high banked bullring on the year. The Atlantic Modified Tour is a part of a jam packed Petty Race Night which begins on Saturday, July 30th at 6pm at the River Glade, New Brunswick track.

After a point shakeup following the Allstar Auto Center Triple 20s at Speedway Miramichi at the start of July, Braxton Stafford (Miramichi, NB) finds himself with a manageable point lead as the Series nears the halfway point of the season. Stafford was the winner of the Northside Auto Parts 35 and was second in the Season Opener at Petty Raceway back in May. Stafford was the runner-up in the last event in Miramichi on July 2nd.

With the addition of a drop race in 2022, Stafford’s lead is 18 points over the first of three models of early season consistency. Joe Hoyt (Wassis, NB), Doug Matchett (Miramichi, NB) and Kevin Bailey (Minto, NB) are still searching for their first feature win of 2022 but find themselves well within the championship conversation in the first half of the year. Hoyt, a multi-time Series champion, is second with a slim eight point cushion on Matchett. Matchett, who enters Saturday’s race on the strength of a podium run during the Allstar Auto Center Triple 20s, is just ten points ahead of Bailey. This trio of Atlantic Modified Tour veterans are hungry to take the checkered flag and are fully capable of doing so on Saturday night in River Glade.

After successes and stumbles in the first two races, both Chris Wilson (South Esk, NB) and Yves McCray (Neguac, NB) find themselves with holes to dig out of. Wilson, a two-time feature winner in 2022, and McCray, the most recent feature winner and 2020 champion, are tied for fifth in the standings with the drop race. The difference between them and Stafford is 45 points. Wilson won the first race of the Season for the Series at Petty Raceway in May. The challenge that faces them in the championship hunt is massive but nothing that the pair of drivers cannot overcome. Not to be outdone, rookie Tristin Harris (Harvey, NB) only sits a single point out of the duo tied for fifth after four races into the season.

Grandstand admission prices for Saturday’s event are $20 for adults and $10 for youth aged eight to 18 with children aged seven and under admitted for free. Pit admission is $25 and is restricted to those 16 years of age and older. New in 2022, all those entering the pit gates must complete their insurance waiver online prior to heading to the track. This waiver can be completed by going to PIRL.speedwaiver.com. Pit gates open at 12:30pm, grandstand gates open for spectators at 4pm with qualifying getting underway at 6pm. Camping is available on a first come, first serve basis.

This is the calm before the storm on the 2022 schedule. Following Saturday’s event, the Series has a few weeks off before heading to Speedway Miramichi on Saturday, August 20th for the sixth point race of the season. Starting on Labour Day Weekend, the Series will contest five point events and one exhibition race in seven weekends that will see stops at all four paved New Brunswick ovals. The Series Champion will be crowned on Saturday, October 15th at Petty International Raceway.
