(RIVER GLADE, NB – July 7th, 2022) – Petty International Raceway will welcome the cars and stars of the East Coast International Pro Stock Tour for a second time in 2022 this Saturday night as the Irving Oil 150 takes centre stage on the high banked oval. The card also has a concentration of local divisions playing support to the sixth round on the Maritime Tour, including the Mister Transmission Mini Stocks, Leisure Days RV Bandoleros and Legends. Action on Saturday, July 9th gets underway at 4pm.
Hard to believe but due to a poorly timed rain out for the Mister Transmission Mini Stocks, they have not been on track at Petty Raceway since the Season Opener. Over a month has passed since the double header on the Victoria Day Long Weekend, so the storyline heading into their 40-lap feature on Saturday may be who did their homework over their extended break. Former track champion JR Lawson (Shubenacadie, NS) had one feature win on Opening Weekend and finds himself on top of the standings over Donnie Pratt (Riverview, NB) and Ryan McKnight (Sussex, NB). Sixteen drivers competed in May and will look to take home a coveted checkered flag on the Irving Oil 150 undercard.
The Legend division sees Danny Chisholm (Canning, NS) and Owen Mahar (Hubley, NS) battle it out in the early stages of the season. The pair of rising Maritime stars have not only battled it out at Petty International Raceway but have also seen their share of duels throughout the region on the Cross Roads Maritime League of Legends Tour. Chisholm currently has a two point advantage on Mahar heading into Saturday’s 40-lap feature. Owen’s father Daryl (Hubley, NS) is third in the standings at Petty Raceway after three events with Devin Wadden (Hammonds Plains, NS) and rookie Kelsey Hann (New Glasgow, NS) rounding out the top five.
Speaking of colossal confrontations, a three way dance has sparked up in the Leisure Days RV Bandolero Outlaw division. Chase MacKay (Bear Cove, NS) holds the lead and is the most recent winner in the class but the consistency of Caden Tufts (Halifax, NS) has the No. 00 only four points out in second. While Tufts is looking for his first feature win of the year, he has a two point edge on two-time feature winner Ayden Christensen (Windsor Junction, NS) after three events. This is sure to be one of the best races of the afternoon on Saturday as the youngest stars of the sport battle it out for supremacy into the Summer stretch.
Fredericton’s Mandi Lee has topped the Leisure Days RV Beginner Bandolero division so far when it comes to the point standings, but Ethan Hicken (New Glasgow, NS) has won the last two events in the division. Hudson Ruff is Lee’s closest competitor in the championship standings, sitting just six points behind with six scheduled events to come this season, including this Saturday’s race!
