SATURDAY’S $5K STUFF YOUR STUFF STORAGE 100 MARKS RACE TWO IN MARITIME STREET STOCK SERIES

Joint Release/Photo by Tanya Everett

(RIVER GLADE, NB – August 5th, 2021) – As if $5,000-to-win wasn’t enough for Street Stock racers to make the trip to Petty International Raceway on Saturday, the $5K Stuff Your Stuff Storage Street Stock 100 is the second of five races in the inaugural Maritime Street Stock Series. The Series, which was hatched over the off-season between the five major oval venues that contest Street Stock racing in the Maritimes, began in July at the Shediac CENTRE For Speed and will run through October at Speedway Miramichi. Speedway 660 and Oyster Bed Speedway will also hold races in the Series in August. All events are 100-laps.

The payout has been slightly adjusted for the Series. The champion of the five race Series will pocket $1,000, second will receive $850, third takes home $750, fourth will bring back $625 to their shop with $525 going to the fifth best driver over the five race Series. The adjusted pay spreads more money throughout the top five point finishers and is in addition to any race payout from the track for their individual race in the Series. Points will be awarded for feature finishes in each of the five events with the winner receiving 50 championship points and every position dropping one point to the final finisher in the field.

The first event of the five race, five track Series took place at the Shediac CENTRE For Speed on Sunday, July 25th with the running of the Johnston’s Enterprises and Winsloe Irving 100. Michael Cormier (Grand-Barachois, NB) showed the way in the race by winning both ends of the event, which was split into two 50-lap shootouts. James Matchett (Miramichi, NB) raced side-by-side with Cormier for the better part of the second half of the event but would wind up second to the No. 68 car. Brad MacLean (Black River, NB) was third in the opening race of the Maritime Street Stock Series.

The month of August is a busy one for the Series. After the $5K Stuff Your Stuff Storage 100 at Petty International Raceway in River Glade, New Brunswick, the spotlight will shift up the Trans-Canada Highway to Speedway 660 in Geary, New Brunswick and the Urquhart Construction 100 on Saturday, August 14th. Two weeks later, the Street Stocks will head across the Confederation Bridge for the Hillside Chevrolet Buick GMC 100 at Oyster Bed Speedway in Oyster Bed Bridge, Prince Edward Island on Saturday, August 28th at 6pm. The Series will wrap up at Speedway Miramichi in Miramichi, New Brunswick with The Very Best Fall Shootout on Saturday, October 2nd. The events in Shediac and Oyster Bed Bridge had to be shifted from earlier in the 2021 calendar due to COVID restrictions in their respective provinces.

Twenty Street Stock drivers have signaled their intent to compete in the $5K Stuff Your Stuff Storage 100 on Saturday at Petty International Raceway, including each of the eight drivers that competed in the first event in July at the CENTRE For Speed. Cormier, Evan Lane (Salisbury, NB) and Mike Weagle (Steeves Mountain, NB) enter as the trio of drivers that have a Street Stock win at Petty International Raceway in 2021.
