Inaugural Atlantic Canadian eSports Short Track Invitational Gets Green Flag Tuesday Night

(HALIFAX, NS – April 20th, 2020) – The cars and stars of Atlantic Canadian short track racing will hit the track on Tuesday evening for an invite-only showcase. The inaugural Atlantic Canadian eSports Short Track Invitational will see the green flag at 9pm Atlantic with a broadcast of the race being shown live on the Tim’s Corner Motorsports Facebook page (www.facebook.com/timscornerca).

A field of 28 drivers have signaled intentions of competing in the first event on Tuesday evening, with 17 of those being familiar names to Pro Stock and Super Late Model fans in the region. Leading the field include two-time Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour champion Cole Butcher (Hantsport, NS), the last two McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 at Speedway 660 champions in Ashton Tucker (Lyttleton, NB) and Ryan Messer (Harvey, NB), World Series of Asphalt at New Smyrna feature winner Nicholas Naugle (Dartmouth, NS) and both local Pro Stock track champions in Speedway 660’s Brent Roy (Hanwell, NB) and Oyster Bed Speedway’s co-champion Troy Burke (Winsloe, PE). Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) will also be making his iRacing debut on Tuesday ahead of the Petty International Raceway iRacing Series, which begins on Saturday afternoon.

The field will also feature numerous local track standouts and track champions. Among those that won championships in 2019 that are scheduled to compete on Tuesday include Scotia Speedworld Legend Champion Andrew Lively (Middle Sackville, NS), Eastbound Park Legend Champion Michael Neary (Portugal Cove, NL) and Oyster Bed Speedway Bandolero Champion Danny Chisholm (Canning, NS).

The green flag will go into the air at 9pm Atlantic with four 10-lap heat races setting the field for the 100-lap feature. The race will be run using the iRacing Super Late Model with a fixed setup being utilized. The broadcast for the race will be produced by the Web Racing Network with Matt “Racinkid” Thomas and will be available to view via Facebook through Tim’s Corner Motorsports and various partners.

“When it comes to accomplishments in the short track world, this field is absolutely stacked,” said Tim Terry of Tim’s Corner Motorsports. “Dozens of track and series championships along with hundreds of race wins are represented in this field on Tuesday evening. While there are numerous skill levels on iRacing from seasoned veterans to some newcomers, this will give fans a chance to see some huge names do battle with some serious bragging rights and pride on the line!”

With the COVID-19 pandemic keeping race fans and teams from testing at real tracks in Atlantic Canada, most have turned to simulations, specifically iRacing, to get their racing fix. Events produced by Tim’s Corner Motorsports have seen over 150 drivers attempt to qualify for “TCM Special Event” races since mid-March. The software allows drivers to stay sharp while fans and crew members can also get a small taste of what it is like to race against their local short track heroes.

Fans can also follow along with broadcasted races to see their favorite drivers race, including the most recent event last evening at the virtual Richmond Raceway. The event, sponsored in part by GD Fabrication and Racecars and Pothier Motors, was viewed by over 5,000 and was won by Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia’s Mike Alexander. The race featured announcing by Dylan Langille (voice of Riverside International Speedway and Valley Raceway), Mike James (the voice of Eastbound Park) and Reg LeBlanc (the voice of Championship Kart Racing Association). While it is a virtual race, the events give Maritime race fans a chance to break away from the world to enjoy their favorite pastime with familiar names on track and voices on the call.

The Petty International Raceway iRacing Series will see their first of three races go green on Saturday afternoon at 2pm from the virtual USA International Speedway. Over 20 drivers have already registered to compete in the three race series which will provide trophies and additional prizes for the top three in the final standings. Fans will be able to watch the Vidane Racing TV broadcast production via the Petty International Raceway Facebook page.

For those that want to compete in the TimsCorner.ca Special Events on iRacing, this weekend sees three chances to get behind the wheel. Friday and Sunday evenings will see races at the virtual Myrtle Beach Speedway, with the Street Stocks racing Friday followed by the Super Late Models on Sunday. The Pontiac Solstice “Mini Stocks” will take to the New Hampshire Motor Speedway Road Course on Saturday afternoon for the Road Course Classic. Information on these events will be available Tuesday afternoon at www.timscorner.ca/iRacing.
