#TCMBestof2019 – Track and Series Award Winners; Lake Doucette Joins Fan Favorite List

NB Street Stock event takes first “Fan Favorite Event” Award; Riverside Speedway and Pro Stock Tour streaks remain in tact

Ask anyone who has visited Lake Doucette Motor Speedway and they’ll tell you stories about wonderful hospitality, great racing and an overall positive vibe around the unique egg shaped oval.

With the growing fan base from across the Maritimes for the Salmon River, Nova Scotia track, it is no surprise the track has finally brought home a TCM Banner.

Lake Doucette Motor Speedway joined Scotia Speedworld and Riverside International Speedway in a Nova Scotia sweep in the TCM Best of Racing Awards – Fan Favorite Race Tracks in the 2019 vote. In the Fan Favorite Events category, Riverside International Speedway’s IWK 250 Presented by Steve Lewis took home the win for the second straight year in the “Major Event” category while the Ricky Bobby Street Stock 150 at Speedway 660 was the winner in the “non-Major” category. The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour raced away late with a sixth straight win in the TCM Fan Favorite Touring Series Award.

Riverside International Speedway and Scotia Speedworld found themselves in familiar territory after the TCM Best of Racing Awards in 2019. Both facilities took home their sixth straight Fan Favorite Short Track Awards in their respective categories.

In what is usually a close battle, Scotia Speedworld brought home one of the biggest victories in the TCM Fan Favorite Weekly Operating Short Track. The category is for facilities that produce more than ten stock car weekends a season, meaning Petty International Raceway slipped into the category in 2019 after adding weekends this past season. The now four track battle saw Scotia Speedworld win the award, taking 34% of the vote and well over 100 votes more than the second place battle. Speedway 660 edged Oyster Bed Speedway by four votes with Petty International Raceway finishing a single vote behind the Island track in fourth.

Riverside International Speedway doubled up on their nearest competitor in the TCM Fan Favorite Special Event Short Track, nearly taking half of the votes cast over the two week period. The James River, Nova Scotia oval finished with 49% of the vote in their category to the 22% amassed by Speedway Miramichi. In their first year returning to the ballot, Sydney Speedway finished with 15%, two percent more than the Shediac CENTRE For Speed, who hosted one stock car event in 2019. It is Riverside’s sixth straight win in the category.

With Petty International Raceway moving categories in 2019, there would be a new winner of the TCM Fan Favorite “Monthly Operating” Short Track Award. When the dust settled, it was Lake Doucette Motor Speedway capturing their first TCM Fan Favorite Short Track and Touring Series Award, taking 44% of the final vote. Valley Raceway picked up their best finish in the TCM Fan Favorite Short Track Awards, finishing second to LDMS with 28% of the vote. Eastbound Park was third with 21%, besting their provincial friends at Thunder Valley Speedway in fourth.

While the Atlantic Modified Tour kept close to the lead most of the second round ballot, the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour eventually built a lead enough to take home their sixth TCM Fan Favorite Touring Series Award.

The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour captured 41% of the vote while the New Brunswick based Atlantic Modified Tour took home 29%. It is the best finish for the Atlantic Modified Tour, besting a third place finish in 2016 and 2017 when the category also had four Touring Series battling for the title. The Maritime League of Legends Tour maintained third from 2018 with 18% of the vote while the Passione Flooring East Coast Mini Stock Tour slipped from second to fourth in 2019 with 12% of the total vote.

For as much that changes in the Maritimes in one year, one thing stayed the same. The Fan Favorite “Major” Short Track Event rankings did not change with the readers of

The IWK 250 presented by Steve Lewis at Riverside International Speedway took home the Fan Favorite Major Short Track event for a second straight year, taking 47% of the final vote. The battle for second was close but it was the same result as last year, with the Mike Stevens Memorial at Petty International Raceway beating out the McLaughlin Roof Trusses 250 at Speedway 660. The difference this year between the two though was only two votes. Each event took 20% of the total vote in the category. The Toromont Cat 250 at Scotia Speedworld rounded out the four entries.

When it came to the Fan Favorite “Non-Major” Short Track Event, it was a Street Stock race taking the top spot for the second straight season. With the Maritime Street Stock Showdown at Oyster Bed Speedway not taking place in 2019 though, the fans voted the Ricky Bobby 150 at Speedway 660 as their favorite event of 2019 outside of the four major weekends. The Ricky Bobby 150, which was fourth in fan voting in 2018, leapfrogged the Season Finale at Eastbound Park and the River Glade International at Petty International Raceway to the lead. The Speedway 660 Street Stock special took home 20% of the vote between the ten events of the category. The Season Finale at Eastbound Park (13%) and the River Glade International at Petty Raceway (12%) finished second and third for a second straight year with The Very Best Fall Shootout at Speedway Miramichi (11%) and the Piston Cup/Pro Stock 100 Open at Oyster Bed Speedway (11%) completing the top five.

In a battle of heavyweights, it was Oyster Bed Speedway’s Popcorn Chicken returning to the top of the Maritime Short Track Food Pyramid, winning their second straight TCM Fan Favorite Short Track Staple Food Award.

The Speedway Fries at Speedway 660 would wind up second again for a third straight year after winning the first three years in the category. The margin of victory in 2019 was six votes, or just under one percent of the total vote in Round Two.

Petty International Raceway’s Deep Fried Pickles made a first appearance, finishing third with 17% of the vote.
