HICKEN RACES TO OVER $20,000 PAYDAY IN MIKE STEVENS MEMORIAL 200 AT PETTY RACEWAY

(RIVER GLADE, NB – September 22nd, 2019) – Jonathan Hicken (Brudenell, PE) capped off the Petty International Raceway season with his third triumph in the Mike Stevens Memorial. Hicken, who previously won the race in 2015 and 2016, led over two thirds of the laps en route to the victory in the 200-lap Pro Stock/Super Late Model feature. The victory was worth $10,000 and after contingency awards, lap leader money and the Bumper to Bumper $3k Petty Pro Stock Challenge, the win was worth well over $20,000 for the No. 5 Chapman Brothers Construction team.

Hicken was pressured in the first portion of the race by Ashton Tucker (Lyttleton, NB) until pit stops put the No. 2 car back in traffic. Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB) was able to capitalize and race for the win with Hicken but it was Hicken who ultimately came out the winner. O’Blenis was second while Tucker fought traffic to come home in third. The AutoRite Service Centre Time Trial winner Robbie MacEwen (Sherwood, PE) was fourth while Nicholas Naugle (Dartmouth, NS) snuck by Sarah McKay (Quispamsis, NB) in the closing laps to take fifth.

Eight cautions slowed the 200-lap race, which took one hour, 27 minutes to complete. A complete list of lap leader, contingency award winners and more race info can be found once made official at PettyRaceway.com.

For the second straight year, Laurie Cormier (Riverview, NB) won the Late Model Sportsman portion of the Mike Stevens Memorial. The final caution flag flew with five laps to go, setting up a mad dash for the front runners. When the dust finally settled, it was Luc Bourgeois (Memramcook, NB) and 2019 AE McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman champion Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake, NS) joining Cormier on the podium. Brady Creamer (Miramichi, NB) and Deven Smith (Lakeside, NS) completed the top five in the 27-car Sportsman feature field.

Colton Noble (Upper Nine Mile River, NS) capped off his Leisure Days RV Bandolero Outlaw season with a victory on Saturday during the Mike Stevens Memorial. Kelsea Lewis (Salisbury, NB) raced to her first career feature win in the Leisure Days RV Beginner Bandoleros while Ayden Christensen (Windsor Junction, NS) won the season long championship. Braden Langille (Shubenacadie, NS) won the 50-lap INEX Legend feature.

Complete results can be found, once deemed official, at PettyRaceway.com during the week.
