(DARTMOUTH, NS – August 8th, 2019) – The Passione Flooring & Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour returns to Scotia Speedworld for the second time this season on Saturday, August 10th. The race is the sixth of nine rounds on the 2019 season and is the third straight weekend the Tour has been in action of a busy four weekend stretch. The 50-lap feature for the Honda Mini Stock Touring Series is a part of the 20th Annual Toromont Cat 250 celebrations and nearly 20 drivers are expected to vie for the Mini Stock Tour checkered flag. Racing begins on Saturday, August 10th at 5pm.
Dave Matthews (Kennetcook, NS) will head into his home track with a commanding championship point lead after five races. Matthews has three wins in five races and runner up finishes in the two feature events he did not score the win. While Matthews owns three Thunder car track championships at Scotia Speedworld, he is still searching for a Tour victory at the 3/10-mile oval. It is a box he will look to put a checkmark in on Saturday evening.
The two previous Passione Flooring & Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour appearances at Scotia Speedworld have belonged to another former Thunder car track champion. Andrew Warren (White’s Lake, NS) has only made one start this season but made it count, taking the A-Pak Drywall and Acoustical 50 in June after taking the Giles Auto World Pole Challenge. Warren also won the inaugural stop for the Series at the track in 2018. Warren’s brother and reigning Tour champion Matthew (White’s Lake) brought his car out last week to shake down at Scotia Speedworld and will look to stop Andrew’s streak at Scotia Speedworld on Saturday.
When it comes to momentum, Jesse Deveau (Greenwood, NS) will be tough to top heading into Saturday’s 50-lap feature presented by Passione Flooring & Interiors. Deveau not only virtually stomped the field en route to last Sunday’s Bruce Honda Showdown on the Shore presented by Endurance Roofing at Lake Doucette Motor Speedway, he took home last Friday’s Scotia Speedworld Thunder feature in dominating fashion. Combine that with a third place finish in the Tour’s most recent stop in Halifax and Deveau will be tough to beat if he is on his game on Saturday afternoon.
Cody Byrne (Orwell Cove, PE) and Neil Miousse (Kentville, NS) will each look to score their first Passione Flooring & Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour podium finish in Halifax on Saturday. Byrne’s most recent podium finish came at Sydney Speedway on July 28th and barely missed out on a third place finish to Miousse last weekend at Lake Doucette. Miousse took home third in the Bruce Honda Showdown on the Shore and is a multi-time feature winner in the Thunder class at Scotia Speedworld. Both will be looking to not only scratch a Scotia Speedworld win with the Tour off their bucket list, but the pair will be looking to chip into the point lead Matthews has built over the last five rounds.
Shay MacPhee (Yarmouth, NS) leads the Rookie of the Year standings heading into Scotia Speedworld on the strength of two straight top five feature finishes. MacPhee picked up his first heat race win with the Series at Sydney Speedway on July 28th and is looking to add to his advantage he has on Stephan Somerset (Nictaux, NS) and Darrell Hulme (Sydney, NS).
Several Scotia Speedworld regulars will be looking to defend their home turf on Saturday. In addition to the likes of Matthews, Warren, Miousse and Deveau, fans can expect the likes of Jason Pickles (Meaghers Grant, NS), Greg McKay (Eastern Passage, NS) and reigning track champion Darren Flemming (Belnan, NS) to be contenders over the 50-lap contest. Reigning Rookie of the Year Taylor McLean (New Glasgow, NS) has been competing full time at the track in 2019 and will be looking to take his newfound experience in Halifax to a podium finish on Saturday. Add in the experience of “The Ironman” Drew MacEachern (Dartmouth, NS) and the entry list is shaping up to be stout for Saturday.
The driver who qualifies on the pole position will be the first driver offered the Giles Auto World Pole Challenge. The first driver to accept the challenge will fall to the back of the field and pick up cash bonuses based off where they finish the event. The EIT Race Radios Hard Charger and RockAuto.com Hard Luck Awards will also be offered during every event on the Passione Flooring & Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour.
The Passione Flooring & Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour 50 is a part of the 20th Annual Toromont Cat 250 celebrations. Saturday sees the culmination of three days of activity at the track with the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour competing in the Toromont Cat 250. The Maritime League of Legends Tour will also contest the sixth round of their Maritime schedule on Saturday. Racing begins at 5pm. Tickets for the Toromont Cat 250 are $35.00 for adults, youth (8-15yrs) $10.00, children 7 and under are free. Pit admission for those 18+ is $40.00. Tickets are cash only and available at the gate on race day. For venue information, please visit ScotiaSpeedworld.ca.
