SUNDAY’S BRUCE HONDA SHOWDOWN ON THE SHORE SHOWS HALFWAY POINT ON MINI STOCK TOUR

Series Release/Photo by Pat Healey

(DARTMOUTH, NS – July 31st, 2019) – The Passione Flooring & Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour travels from one end of Nova Scotia to the other as the Series will contest the Bruce Honda Showdown on the Shore presented by Endurance Roofing this Sunday afternoon at Lake Doucette Motor Speedway. The high banked, egg shaped, half mile oval located minutes from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia will host Round Five of Nine on the 2019 season, marking the halfway point of the third season for the Series. Racing gets underway on Sunday, August 4th at 1pm.

The unique layout of Lake Doucette Motor Speedway tests the grit, determination and talent of even the best drivers in the Series. A look back at the inaugural Tour stop at the track will show the likes of current point leader Dave Matthews (Kennetcook, NS) and 2017 champion Tim Webster (Beaver Bank, NS) with finishes outside the top five. On the other hand, it was Matthew Warren (White’s Lake, NS) who scored the win at Lake Doucette in 2018, a win that shifted the momentum his way and ultimately helped catapult him to the championship.

Fast forward to 2019, Matthews enters with an early season stranglehold on the championship standings after three wins in the first four events. Matthews took both ends of the Veterans for Healing Twin 75s last weekend at the re-opened Sydney Speedway and sits atop the standings. With two podium finishes at his home track, former Late Model Sportsman competitor Dave Timmons (Inverness, NS) moves himself to second in the standings.

The Rookie of the Year standings took a turn south this past weekend. Shay MacPhee (Yarmouth, NS) will enter his home track with a biggest lead in the freshman standings after Darrell Hulme (Sydney, NS) suffered set backs in both races at Sydney Speedway. Stephan Somerset (Nictaux, NS) will look to head to what would geographically be his home track with the Series to gain ground on his competition in the Bruce Honda Showdown on the Shore presented by Endurance Roofing.

While he has one of the shorter drives of anyone to Lake Doucette Motor Speedway, Bridgewater, Nova Scotia’s Shawn Pierce will have one of the longest hauls to the track on Sunday. Pierce, a regular on the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour, will compete in the Lucas Oil 150 at Oyster Bed Speedway (PE) on Saturday evening before hitting the road for the nearly seven hour drive to Lake Doucette. Pierce will make his ECMST debut with Darkside Racing, competing in the No. 13 A-Pak Drywall and Acoustical Honda Civic for Drew MacEachern. Cody Byrne (Orwell Cove, PE) will also be making the haul from Prince Edward Island this weekend to compete in Southwest Nova Scotia.

Jesse Deveau (Greenwood, NS), Darren Flemming (Shubenacadie, NS) and Neil Miousse (Kentville, NS) all have hundreds of laps around Lake Doucette over the last year and all have to be considered favorites for the win heading into Sunday. Deveau was the runner-up in this event last year while Miousse took the Giles Auto World Pole Challenge at this race last season.
