25th Annual Shriners’ Classic Takes to the Track Friday Night at Scotia Speedworld
Track Release
(Halifax, NS – July 3, 2019) The 25th edition of the Shriners’ Classic for Sportsman is set for Friday night. In addition to the 50 lap Sportsman feature fans will also see racing action from the Hydraulics Plus Bandoleros, Toursec Lightning and Strictly Hydraulics Legends. Racing action will get underway at 7:00 PM.
The Shriners’ Classic is one of the most prestigious Late Model Sportsman races in the Province. A quick look at the past champions list will show several big names in the sport, many of whom have gone on to win championships at the Sportsman level and competed with the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour on a regular basis.
The Shriners’ Classic is a victory that the most recent Sportsman winner at the Speedworld and reigning track champion Jordan Veinotte (Porter’s Lake) wants more than any other race win in the region. “I’ve told you before, I want to win the Shriners’ Classic more than our 100 (lap race in August),” said Veinotte after winning on Kiddie Night. “That race has so much prestige and to put our name on the trophy alongside Terry Roma would be huge to our team.”
The race will see the return of Harry Ross White (Noel Road) to the Sportsman division. The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour regular will look to win a third Shriners’ Classic on Friday. “It would mean the world to me to win this race again,” said HOSS of Friday’s Shriners’ Classic. “It seems to bring the best of the best competition out every year – and we all want to win it. There are a few of us that have won two of these, only two drivers have won three. I want to join them on Friday night.”
In the 2018 edition of the race, Richard Salter (Centre Burlington) took home his first career Sportsman win in the Shriners’ Classic after a spirited battle with Alex Johnson (Enfield) and two-time Classic winner Russell Smith Jr. (Lakeside).
Veinotte leads the Sportsman point standings going into Friday’s race over sophomore Deven Smith (Lakeside) and 2017 track champion Matt Vaughan (Bedford). The trio has occupied the podium in the first three feature events of 2019 but all three are still looking for their first Shriners’ Classic win.
Joining Speedworld voice Tim Terry in the skybox on Friday evening is Greg McKay (Eastern Passage). McKay, driver of the No. 42 Toursec Thunder division, is coming off a career run one week ago and will have stories to tell on Friday evening during the 25th Annual Shriners’ Classic.
The Dartmouth District Shriners will be hosting their first ever Tailgate Party from 6:00pm-7:00pm at the track. Be sure to drop by and enjoy some free BBQ courtesy of the Shriners! (While quantities last)
