Sydney Speedway Postpones Season Opener; July 27th Race Weekend Expanded
Track Release
(SYDNEY, NS – June 29th, 2019) – Management at Sydney Speedway regret to announce the decision that the July 6th and 7th Opening Weekend at the race track has been canceled. The July 27th date has been expanded to a two day show, with motorsports action at the Sydney, Nova Scotia oval on Saturday, July 27th and Sunday, July 28th.
With several cancelations forcing Maritime race tracks to contest events for Legend and Bandolero classes on Saturday, July 6th, Sydney Speedway has been forced to change their Season Opening weekend. In the best interest of race fans and teams alike, Sydney Speedway wants to put on the best show possible for the motorsports community.
“When the rain rolled in and forced the postponement of the Maritime League of Legends Tour event in Prince Edward Island, we were faced with a decision,” explained Greg Dowe, track owner at Sydney Speedway. “We thought about running our INEX National Qualifiers with less than a handful of Legend and Bandolero competitors next weekend, but we want to give all the drivers and teams that want to come to Sydney Speedway a fair chance to do so and not have to be forced to pick and choose which track they want to race with. We want to give our fans the best all around show possible and we felt we could not give them that next weekend with the deck that was stacked against us.”
The Passione Flooring & Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour will return to the track for the Veterans for Healing Twin 75s, with one 75-lap feature on Saturday, July 27th and one on Saturday, July 28th.
“We want to thank Drew MacEachern, Greg McKay and the East Coast Mini Stock Tour Board of Directors for working with us on this,” said Dowe. “We know this puts their teams in a string of four straight weekends on the road but we are confident they will put on one of the best shows Cape Breton has ever seen when it comes to oval racing!”
A complete weekend format will be released in the coming days. The Saturday, July 27th card will include INEX sanctioned Legend and Bandolero racing, the Veterans for Healing 75 for the Passione Flooring & Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour along with the previously scheduled Demolition events and a 100-lap Endurance Race. Sunday, July 28th will see racing in the INEX sanctioned Legend and Bandolero divisions, along with the Veterans for Healing 75 for the Passione Flooring & Interiors East Coast Mini Stock Tour and the Street Stock division. Due to low interest in the Late Model Sportsman division, Sydney Speedway has decided to refocus the interest in the division to the October 11th to 13th Fall Finale.
Sydney Speedway looks forward to welcoming drivers, teams and fans alike on July 27th and 28th to Cape Breton Island.
