Dawson Scores First Eastern Super Mini Cup Series Victory at Atlantic Championships

(MISCOUCHE, PE – October 9th, 2018) – It only took four races for rookie Logan Dawson (Tyne Valley, PE) to find victory lane in the Eastern Super Mini Cup Series.

Dawson scored an impressive feature victory Saturday at the Shediac CENTRE For Speed during the 19th Annual Atlantic Stock Car Championships. Dawson drove away from the field in the 25-lap, caution free, race en route to his first checkered flag in a main feature.

“We’ve been working on this thing all season long trying to get things right and this afternoon it finally went the way we wanted it to go,” said Dawson after climbing from the No. 88 car. “My main goal was to finish all the races in my first year, this is icing on the cake.”

Mark Ferguson (Saint John, NB), who won the heat race on the afternoon, finished in second. Ferguson was reeling in Dawson but was not close enough to take home the win in the feature event. Rookie Jacob Dunlop (Hampton, PE), who entered the event as the most recent winner on the Series, completed the podium. Dave Griffin raced to a fourth place finish and was the first car one lap down while “Old Man” Donnie McNeil held off a hard charging Kirk Sheasgreen (Miramichi, NB) for fifth.

Ferguson entered as the point leader and all but clinched the 2018 championship on Saturday afternoon with one race to go in the season.

The final Eastern Super Mini Cup Series race on the 2018 season will take place on Saturday, October 13th at Speedway Miramichi. The Concept Drilling 20 is the seventh point event on the year and will officially see a champion crowned on the touring division. The Concept Drilling 20 is a part of The Very Best Fall Shootout and has a post time of 2pm.
